Water

So both of LO's grandmas have given LO a small amount of water once in the last couple weeks while they were watching her. That made me wonder, is a small amount of water okay now at this age? (LO is 5 1/2 months). I've been meaning to ask her pedi but haven't gotten around to that yet, so thought I'd ask what you guys think? Most things I find on Google say it's probably ok in small amounts once they're old enough to start solids, which she is.

Re: Water

  • @lisa1129‌ Thanks for the link! I hadn't thought to check Kellymom. @Sooz, they both said it was about 1 oz.

@heaven, I was a little surprised they didn't ask either but I didn't get upset about it. I just figured I should find out what is okay though so I can tell them. My mom did it one time after her & LO got back from a walk on a really hot day & she thought LO was thirsty. MIL did it once when she couldn't get LO down for nap & didn't know what else to try I guess. She said LO went right to sleep after. Neither of them ever did it before when she was younger though.

  • Our daycare provider (she is 67 and very old school) has given our LO an ounce of warm water if she's gassy and it works like a charm. That's the only time we give her water.

  • Like others said, should be ok, but there's really no point. The only time DS1 had water before the age of 1 was after 7 months or so when we were at the pool.

  • The nurse suggested water in a sippy cup to fill LO up a bit so we could try and stretch out feeds, but he's off the chart for size otherwise we wouldn't bother yet.

We give tea to Anya for her tummy..I guess that's water...but only an ounce.
