2nd Trimester

swollen feet, ankles

Is this pretty normal?  We went to Disney and I was walking around more than usual but my feet were so swollen.  I've tried to make sure I'm not getting too much sodium either, I eat pretty healthy.  I'm a vegetarian and mostly eat fruit and veggies.  The other day I went out for just a little while and my feet were swollen again.  Is this anything to be concerned about or pretty normal and just part of it?  When I see it, I put my feet up and drink more water.

It's normal! I drank tons of water and used compression socks and it helped until the 3rd trimester. In my case the doc said the baby was pressing on the aorta, being on all fours would reduce the pressure for me.

  • Sounds normal... you did mention that you did a lot more walk than normal. If possible keep off your feet more often for a few days. Pp had a good point. Drink lots of water. Watch your sodium intake. And wear comfortable shoes/sandals - one with good support for your feet and back does help too.
  • My feet have been swollen since week 17. No matter what I eat they swell. The days I'm off work the swelling seems to go down bc I take it easy.
  • I've had swelling for the past few days, mostly just my right ankle and calf, but my left is becoming increasingly less cooperative It started when we had a sort of out of the blue hot spell, and I assumed that, combined with eating an extra salty snack and being on me feet for 8+ hours at work probably caused it. Except that it's now cooled way down, I've thrown away the Ghardettos and been careful with the amount of sodium in other things, and made sure to drink plenty of H2O, but it's still happening. I was just on amazon.com ordering a pair of compression socks when I came across this thread. I will say that it seems the days of 'flesh colored granny style' compression socks are gone. I ordered a pair of peacock print ones in the hopes of getting myself excited about wearing them. Lol.

  • I didn't realize there were such things as compression socks and I ordered compression stockings. Halfway though the day I checked my feet to see if it helped and although my legs looked ultra slim, my feet were still very swollen lol
  • With baby 1 my feet were bad but not horrible... baby 2... I am 21 weeks and my feet hurt from the swelling already.  Totally normal but a pain.  Good luck.
