Sleep Monitors

My LO is 20 weeks tomorrow and started rolling about two weeks ago, meaning no more swaddling. She absolutely loved to be swaddled, so dealing with that transition has been hard (we still wrap around the chest). I'm not sure if it's the unswaddling or if she's going through the four-month wakeful period but she's been waking up every couple hours to cry out for no good reason (that I can determine) or to feed. Prior to this, she'd be up about once a night to eat. Life was good. To make matters worse, she's been rolling off her "Safe to Sleep" breathing monitor mat, which means the alarm goes off, scaring the sh*t out of me and interrupting her sleep, While it doesn't seem to bother her too much to be moved back onto the mat, it's just one more interruption in an already crappy night of sleep. I'm thinking it's time to take the mat out and just hope she's okay through the night. I'm a first-time mom and it took me nearly 3 years to get pregnant, so I'm even more of an anxious mess when it comes to worrying about something happening to her. Have others stopped using breathing monitors like Snuza on their babies?

Re: Sleep Monitors

  • We use a snuza. I'm not sure when we will stop, maybe never.

Not really; it will probably be retired when he is able to remove or dislodge it.

  • I bought a snuza because lo sleeps on her face freakin me out. :(( But we stopped using it because she rolls so much that it was going off 4+ times a night and wouldn't stay on. I still freak out but not much we can do so trying to calm down and stop freaking out.
  • We're struggling with it falling off now that he can roll all over the place but we're still using it. I rather like being rudely awakened at 2AM by a loud false alarm.

    Snuza here.
It falls off more with my cloth diapers vs the disposables.
    I still use it.
Sometimes the beeping doesn't even wake her up -! I know to somewhat relax now , after some false alarms , if it goes off.

I'd rather a few false alarms at this point over making the decision to get rid of it.

We still use ours, she moves around, but not yet enough to dislodge it. I'm not sure when we'll stop using it, I'm not ready to just yet.
  • We have the angel care sensor mat and that works fine in the big crib, I couldn't sleep without it
  • Still using the Snuza. Used it until almost 1 with DS so we'll see how long we do with DD.

  • Thanks to you all for the advice! Since she keeps rolling off the mat, I ordered a Snuza to see how that goes.
