Play With Your Baby Things?

When we got our stroller I took it out of the box right away, put it together, and played with the fold, recline, etc. Same thing with our car seat. The pack n play we received as a gift is still on the box unopened, but I'm itching to get it out and play around with it (even though we won't be using it for quite a while). We are going to cloth diaper and I've had our entire stash prepped and ready for about 3 months now.

I know I'm not alone - what baby things have you be too excited to wait with?

Everything. Lol everything we've bought we've already put together. (Pack n play, stroller/car seat, and bouncer/swing)
  • Loading the player...
  • All the baby things I'm playing with DS still uses, except the pack n play and swing. I'm waiting until closer to my due date to reassemble the swing though. I have the nursery painted and furniture assembled though, and I'm going to pull out our 0-3 and 3-6 month clothes bin this week to wash and put away.

  • I have, but it's mostly because I want to make sure everything is working, no parts are missing, etc. before the return time would expire.

The only thing I'm not doing it taking tags off of clothes.  Not quite yet.  My sister got a TON of clothes...not just for her shower, but all the time, from friends, family, etc.  She often ended up returning a lot of them, because there were just too many for her son to wear before he outgrew them.  She would return things and exchange them for other sizes that she needed more of, as she reached that time.  I'm planning on doing the same thing.  Waiting to see what I have when he needs it, then exchanging if I have too much of one size.
  • This is timely!  Just last night I put together the bouncer we ordered, it had just come that day.  My excuse was that I wanted to make sure everything was there and not damaged.  Now I have a bouncer that I have stashed in a corner of our bedroom, in a very inconvenient place!  But, Memorial Day week we're moving my youngest in with my oldest and it will be in the baby's room.

I'm excited to get out all the baby stuff again and get the nursery arranged.  I'm even excited about washing clothes and diapers in preparation.  Everything is going to look so little!

  • Yup! I can't take everything I've wanted to play with out since we're remodeling the bathroom, kitchen, AND trying to get the nursery together, but I tell you what I'm a MASTER at using the Chicco Keyfit system. Folding and unfolding the stroller, clicking the car seat into place. Uninstalling and reinstalling the base for the carseat. We wont even have someone to use it until the end of August but I still drive around with the seat there!

  • haha, we still have boxes sitting in our main room - crib, glider, stroller.. there's nowhere to really set them up at the moment so they're just continuing to hang out in the boxes.  One day we'll get our act together...

  • I have washed clothes. I bought some decor items for his nursery. We are currently trying to put together DD's room so I can get her transitioned over and his room ready for him. DH painted her room on Friday.

Not this time but we did last time.  I used to wheel the City Mini around the house.  LOL!  I'm also pretty sure I'd washed all the clothes by 32 weeks last time.

  • I'm looking forward to checking out the stroller when it arrives next week! It was a model I couldn't find in stores, so want to make sure we like it enough to keep it. My shower is the end of June/early July, so we won't have much more to play with until then. We did build the crib and glider. However, most of what I've purchased (mainly just nursery decor) has been kept in packaging so far. I'm sure I'll start pulling stuff out over the next couple weeks once we paint the nursery and install the closet organizer.

Awesome that you're familiar with it and feel comfortable with it! I'd recommend keeping the seat part out of the car until delivery, that way if your vehicle is involved in an accident you only have to replace the base and not the whole thing.

  • We have two shedding dogs so I'm afraid to set everything up and then have to wash it all again or have it get dusty so I've been holding off for a couple more weeks.

I haven't washed any linens or clothing yet, either, for the same reason. I figure I'll wash and put on the crib sheet and changing pad when there's only a week or so to go. I have also left tags on baby clothes so I can return things if I get a million pieces in newborn size.

I forgot about last time I had the baby's changing pad cover all clean and on the changing pad, then my cat decided it was his new favorite "bed."

  • I'm jealous. We are moving this weekend, finally. Our crib and mattress was just delivered and other than that (and clothes) the only thing I have purchased is the RNP. My shower is in 2 weeks so we will hopefully be mostly settled from the move and after the shower I can organize all things baby. Can't wait!!! :)

  • I found it to actually be really nice to practice with all the baby stuff before arrival! That way I didn't look like a complete idiot trying to figure our how to close the stroller at the mall — or worse, how to shut the PNP while my mom and dad a rolling on the floor laughing because I can't figure it out. Jerks. ;)

  • Our nursery is almost done, and I have lots of clothes. I like to go in the room and look at everything once a week or so. But we don't have any baby gear yet. I'm waiting to buy anything until after the shower at the end of June. But I can imagine myself pushing the stroller around the house when we do have it!

I tried to put the cat in the baby bjorn carrier the other day. It did not end well for me.
    Is this you?

Apparently, this is common, I googled "cat in baby carrier" and there were quite a few images!  DH likes to put our youngest cat in his bathrobe in the morning and carry him around like it's a baby carrier.  I assume we'll try to put him in it when get our carrier.

We literally have a room that has now been labeled as "the baby garage."  2 double strollers parked in there, 2 bouncers, 2 rock n plays, twin bassinet pack n play, 6 bases, 4 car seats, swing...
and yes, everything put together...it's ridiculous.

They just need to get here now so that the things can be scattered through the house and it doesn't seem AS cluttered!

  • I'm itching to put stuff together! I can't do much since we will be moving soon. I have decided to buy a Pack N Play and set it up just in case baby comes early. I really want the crib though. I also have my favorite baby blanket and outfit on display so I can actually see something babyish when I want to. We looked at stollers and carseats this weekend. DH wants to wait until one week before my due date to purchase so we can get a better deal from our registry. I told him that is crazy! I absolutely will NOT be waiting and plan to purchase next week :)

That would scare me!  My SIL just had her baby 10 days early.  It has inspired me to make sure everything is all ready to go 2 weeks ahead of time at least.

I pushed our chihuahua around the house in the stroller/infant car seat for a while.  It was fun… the cat even jumped in the bottom part.  Now that it's getting nice outside, I kind of want to take her for a walk in it, but my neighbors would probably never speak to me.

  • It's all I can do to not start getting stuff out now. I'm actually feeling nesty this time around, but we're having work done to the house in June that will kick up a lot of dust and I don't want to set stuff up just so it can get dusty and the cats can sleep on it. Maybe I'll wash the newborn clothes. I need to soak them to get out old BM stains. They looked clean when I put them away, but some have yellowed. I'm going to give them all a good oxyclean soak.

I also want to check the fit of our car seats. We have a rear facing convertible in the middle right now, so it doesn't matter how far up it sticks, but it doesn't fit well behind the driver. We need to see if the infant seat will fit better behind the driver, or we have to look into another seat to get everything to fit without squishing the driver.

But my life is really going to slow down by mid June, and if I do it all now, I'll sit around for all of July and go crazy.

  • I have to wait until school is out for the summer before we set up the crib and everything, according to DH. Right now, there's this huge pile of baby stuff in the middle of our sitting room. I am getting so antsy!
