My 8 week old is getting expressed milk with occasional time at the breast. He poops ALL the time. He now has a rash that is so bad it's bleeding. Dr says it's the acidity in his poop creating the rash. Is there anything in my diet I can or should do to get this better under control?! He has a twin sister with the opposite problem...she poops about every 4 days.. I'm at a loss...I think this is just something he will outgrow??? What do you think?
Re: Help -- baby constantly poops!!!
What color/consistency is his poop?
But seriously, sorry about the rash! I can only commiserate and let you know it will improve! We get one big messy poop a day now at 6 months. It does slow down! I actually miss a lot of small poops now that I've seen the damage one condensed poop does. I can't believe I just wrote about missing poop.

DD had a diaper rash since we left the hospital and it only got worse. She would poop abt 12 times per day too (yellow, seedy poop as it is supposed to be for a BF baby). It was a blistering rash that would not go away. Pedi suggested a few different diaper creams, but it didn't work. She also said it was probably the acidity in her poop, so I stopped with all acidic foods and it did not help either. Until she was 2 months old, we tried over 10 types of diaper cream and would do naked time for about 8hrs a day, and the rash would not go away. At this point I was willing to do anything. At her 2 month check up, the Pedi finally told me to cut out dairy from my diet as it could be an intolerance to the protein in Dairy. The rash got better within 2 weeks of cutting out dairy, but still didn't go away completely, so I decided to cut out gluten too, and withing another week it was finally gone. Her diaper rash and constant pooping was caused by a dairy and gluten intolerance.
It was very hard at the beginning to cut out all forms of dairy and gluten. I kept a food journal and wrote down everything I ate to reference back if she had any reactions. There was a few times I accidentally had dairy or gluten and within a day she would develop the rash again and it would take abt a week to clear up, but the food journal helped figure out what I ate that caused it.
DD is now 6 months old and is doing great! I still EBF and she hasn't had a diaper rash for a very long time. We recently reintroduced dairy and she can tolerate small amounts just fine, but gluten is still a big problem for her.
I hope your LO gets better soon, but you may want to talk to your pedi abt food allergy/intolerance as a possible cause. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
