My child will not sleep! Is he ok?

My LO wakes up every hour crying & crying hard!! He has reflux but since we have given him cereal - he has stopped spitting up almost completely. During the day he also will not nap more than twenty min. Could he just be a bad sleeper? We tried Zantac. Ped GI told us to stop bc he didn't think it was that bad or helping and LO wouldn't take it. I'm worried about my LO.

  • He could just be going through a phase. Or he could be a bad sleeper.

  • Spit up could be tamed but still could have reflux. I would talk to a pedi.

  • Thank you. He hasn't been sleeping well for about 4 weeks when the reflux really picked up. But it's getting worse. I've spoken to the pedi about it & GI specialist. GI said it was his personality. Another ped we saw ( not normal dr) in group said don't let me nap during the day. He only takes two 20 min naps so that dr is crazy. Maybe I should get a new dr.
  • Have you tried putting LO to sleep on an incline. We've been struggling with reflux too and the only thing that helped with the constant waking up was putting a crib wedge in so she was slightly elevated. The crying at every wake up is not good. My pedi said if they wake up crying they are still tired or are uncomfortable (gas, reflux, teething, etc).
  • Yes. He was still spitting up with meds & he would spit medicine out anyway. Told us it was "more of a laundry issue" :/
  • Oh I know! That was not out normal dr- also told me breast milk is bad for him. Lol
  • We use gerber soothe as well. We started on Zantac and it gave him awful gas and distended belly. Now we use Prevacid. He's a completely different baby. He also sleeps on an incline as well. He still spits up, he's just not in pain

  • We use VSL for both kids. Super expensive but it works for them. $45/bottle at Costco. It's what the GI doc recommends and uses for her kids.

Get a new doc all around. Try elimination diet. Get back on reflux meds and perhaps switch the type. Prevacid and Xantac didn't work for us. We use Nexium DR packets. Sleep at an incline. Trust your gut!
