Baby Names

First Name List (and Harper vs. Hazel)

My pregnant best friend is trying to decide between Harper and Hazel. I'm pushing for Hazel but she's leaning toward Harper. (Would love opinions on this matter too!) Anyway, my six year old niece and I then got into a discussion about names we liked and my little dear made her very first baby name list! She's just like me, ha. It's so cute, I thought I'd share it. She doesn't have bad taste in my opinion!

Girls

Sylvia (this is my current favorite and she added for me)

Opal

Dora (obv. The Explorer)

Poppy (this is her kitten's name)

Cleo (Monster High related)

Rio (Like the movie)

Foxy (No idea where this came from...)

Rose

Elsa (Frozen reference)

Arielle (Mermaid)

Daisy (Duck)

Clementine (no idea where this came from either?)

Lucy

Geegee (she likes the double e)

Boys

Augustus (my favorite name again)

Milo

Woody

and then we started talking about babies born around Christmas time and this is her list for Christmas babies

Carol (I'm not sure she knows this is a legit name, she means like a Christmas Carol)

Elf

Rudolph

So she got a little more like a six year old there at the end. She made me promise to keep the name list because I might need it someday...

    Hazel > Harper IMO.

So cute that she made her first name list! I loved Elsa and Arielle on there the most (though Disney spells it Ariel).

Clementine is a character on Calliou, that could be where she's heard it. The girl has some pretty good taste.
  • Harper. I don't like the way Hazel sounds or looks.
  • Honestly, I hate both. I have never liked Harper, too masculine and harsh. Hazel is also hard on the ears and I can't stand it.
  • Hazel!!!!!!
  • Hazel by a landslide.

@mh89 I admit she asked me how to spell Arielle and I spelled this way because that's the way I like it spelled. I corrected Sylvia and Augustus for her too, she had them spelled Silvia (which isn't wrong) and Auguseus.

I wasn't sure if Harper would get much love here or not. I really dislike it and I also don't think it flows well with the baby's last name which ends in -er. Think Harper Tanner...my last name ends in the -er sound also and I've eliminated all names that end in that same sound but my friend doesn't think that it sounds bad.

  • Hazel by a landslide. It is a legit name with some natural quirkiness and not over used. It is my oldest niece's mn. Have to admit it took a little getting used to 12 years ago, but it definitely grew on me. :-)
