Need help deciding on 2nd car 3-in-1 Seat

My almost 3 year old has outgrown the 40 lb. weight limit for the Cosco Scenera seat in my husbands car.  Rather than get another convertible seat, we want o get a 3-in-1 seat.

Since she doesn't ride in there much, we want to keep the cost low!  From what I've researched I'm between the Evenflo Securekid, Evenflo Maestro & Graco Nautilus.  The Maestro is the cheapest but the harness weight is only 50 lbs & the fact she is already just over 40 lbs makes me nervous.  I think I've also read that they don't last long after switching to the belt positioner because of the height limit (so I think that one is last on the list.)

Anyone have any advice or have any of these seats?  Any help is appreciated since I want to get it this week.  Thanks!

  • Check out the Harmony Defender.  It's less than $100 and will get her all the way through boostering.

  • There is a $20 price difference between the Nautilus I found & the Defender.  Not sure which to go with!

  • Is space in the backseat an issue? The Defender can't have any overhang off the seat, but the Nautilus is wider.

Not really.  He has a Pontiac G6, so not big but it's a 4 door at least. We'll just have the infant seat back there (on occasion if ever) for the next one.

  • With it being a car, I'd go for the Defender. The Nautilus is nice, but it is pretty big. The Defender is pretty low profile and narrow.

For the twenty dollar difference, I would go with a Nautilus.  I have heard that the defender has a short torso height.  It is good for short kids.  Nautilus will last longer height wise.
