Increase in PP bleeding?

I'm 16 days PP and so far had minimal bleeding and no clots passed. This evening I noticed the bleeding has gone from brownish to pink to bright red and I passed a decent sized clot (maybe walnut sized?). My PP instructions say to call if I soak through a pad in an hour but I was wondering if I should call since I've had a pretty decent increase and good-sized clot pass?

Re: Increase in PP bleeding?

  • Was it just the one clot? Any pain? Did the red bleeding subside after the clot passed?

Obviously if you are concerned or this met the criteria they told you to call about, then call.

If it was a one time thing that has improved since the clot passed, i probably wouldnt call. I had simular happen with both kids and was told it was normal with my first.

Red bleeding has not subsided after passing the clot, but volume-wise it has decreased since passing. There was just one clot.
I'm thinking it may be because I over did it today by going on a 2 mile walk, I also feel a but crampy and sore.

  • A two mile walk was definitely ambitious and could have caused it. I'd take it easy - too many trips up the stairs would increase my bleeding.

  • I always see an increase in bleeding after a walk. If it continues for a day I'd call but otherwise no.

I had an increase in bleeding after it calmed down with DD. I did call the OB and they said to take it easy (I was just doing housework, so I imagine a 2 mile walk would easily do it too). I would certainly call though if concerned.

Thanks ladies-it has calmed down a lot since last night. I definitely think I just over did it, I'm going to take it easy today.
I'll call if it doesn't slow more bu the end of the day.

With DS I was on the couch or in the bed for several weeks. I had a rough delivery and recovery with him. It was winter so I couldn't get out much anyway but this time my recovery is a lot different and I'm outside a lot, taking care of my two year old, and going places so my bleeding that had practically stopped after a week has picked back up (even though darker now....was bright red when it started again) and had some clots.

I was attibuting it to me being on the move more! I'm 18 day post delivery and it's a hit or miss...nothing but a streak yesterday and today, I'm bleeding!

I've been concerned about my bleeding too...Everyhing I've rread says the red should be fading by now.  I'm 12 days post delivery   and its still bright red.  The amount has stayed pretty steady and  I have the occasional clot pass.   I am not soaking through a pad in an hour by any means. I can go about 4 hours with one pad, its just still so bright red and the clots have me worried...
