Can baby feel cold hands on stomach?

Silly question, but I thought I'd put it out there. It seems that our LO really starts kicking when DH puts a hand on my stomach--and his hands are usually freezing.

It cracks me up because she'll be totally calm for me but goes crazy when his cold hand touches, which made me wonder if they could feel a slight temperature difference?! I know she's probably not cold, but still thought it was funny.

I really doubt that they can. It might simply be the pressure from his hand that she is feeling and which is causing her to move.

  • Does he talk to her while he does it? When I was pregnant with my daughter, she always moved to the sound of my SO's voice, or any time there was music with a male singer. I think they like the different pitches.

In terms of the coldness, this one really starts moving if I drink really cold water or eat something cold like ice cream.

  • @MorganWP he does! I keep trying to get him to sing nursery rhymes to her too but he won't stop singing everything from Queen to Zepellin, etc. She loves it!

While I don't know about cold hands, I do know that they react to ice. I put ice on my belly while pregnant with ds my dr suggested it and it's also on spinning babies.com I believe. You put it on the top of your belly to encourage them to go head down because they don't like the cold on their head. So I don't know what factor of coldness you need. But they can feel that.

  • Maybe baby just senses the pressure. Mine kicks me constant when my band of my pants is in his way.
