best pads for after baby?

For my periods I've used a menstrual cup for a few years.

When I had my daughter 4 1/2 years ago I just bought maxi pads. I hate the thick pads though, hence why I use a cup for my cycles. Are there any better thin pads out now that are good for the first PP week when there's the heaviest bleeding?

  • Are you looking for cloth or disposable? I really like Talulah Bean cloth pads. I've been using their regular ones because my bleeding hasn't been too heavy since I left the hospital, but they also make Babymoon pads which are bigger and more absorbent for PP.

  • I hear you on pads. I personally can't stand them. I just bought the cheap brand. Luckily I only needed them for a few days and I am now on liners.

A lot of people rave about the mama cloth though. I'm sure they would be more comfortable.

I am the exact opposite... The stitches from my tear are still sore, so I wanted extra padding between that and my chairs. I just went to buy another pack of thick pads. Normally, I'd hate it, but...
  • I used the thick pads for a week or so and then switched to Always (the thin kind). They hold a lot but I am still changing them every few hours, at three weeks post partum. So much bleeding. :(

  • I took Always Infinity pads to the hospital. IMO, they are the best. They are thin but hold a lot. I started wearing them at the hospital as soon as they took my catheter out and didn't leak at all. I hate the huge pads the hospital gives you.
I love Always Infinity! They are thin and hold so much.

I'm strictly a tampon user because I HATE pads. However, I've found that I can tolerate the Always Infinity and have been using them for the last two weeks with no complaints.
  • Always infinity!

My heaviest bleeding took place mostly in the hospital, so I used their pads while I was in there. Then for the next couple of weeks while the bleeding was still pretty heavy, I used Stayfree extra-long overnight ultrathin pads with wings. After that I just went to the Stayfree long ultrathin pads with wings.

A lot of women like the Always Infinity, but I've never cared for the way they feel against my skin, kind of damp and itchy.

  • I'll definitely go buy some of the infinity pads for the first weeks. Thanks ladies. I didnt want to pay a ton to buy expensive cloth pads for pp because my menstrual cup plus a cloth liner work 99% of the time on my cycle.
  • My doctor told me to switch brands. I was on always Infiniti but I guess there is additives that can irritate ur skin with prolonged use. She told me to switch to kotex. They have thin pads and they feel so much better. I've been using them for all the yucky discharge overnight.
  • Ill buy a pack of those too then :) id hate to be irritated down there from thepads and hhave to send hubby to the store. He hasn't a clue lol so id rather have more than enough to choose from lol
  • I first used the pads given to me at the hospital. Then I used Equate overnight pads (Walmart brand).

  • They're called kotex U. In a black box. They're cheaper too which I can live with.

This exactly. I used the thicker Stayfree pads for about a week and then switched to the thin ones. I'm 3 weeks PP now and my bleeding has really lightened up so I think I will switch to liners.

  • Plan on sticking with thick pads for cushioning - a second degree tear doesn't make sitting down very comfortable. When I feel stronger, I'll switch to liners.

  • Thicker pad for cushion for the stitches. I also felt like it keeps the area more dry than the always infinity ones. Those are what I first bought and switched to thicker

Another vote for Always Infinity. You can line them with witch hazel pads to take it easy on the stitches and hemmies.

I love the Always Infinity as well. My MWs said they sometimes cause irritation, but I used them when DD was born and they were great.

I didnt like the massive one the MW gave me - I used 1 and thats it. I also didn't like the mesh underwear that Ive heard so many good things about.

  • I just bought a box of always infinity in preparation (inside baby still), and I opened one up to see what they were like... Holy crap they seem awesome, like cushy memory foam for your hoo-ha.
  • This may sound strange but the cvs brand of Always is actually softer!

I'm planning on using Depends from the hospital for the really heavy time, then using up the disposables that I have left over from before I found cloth. (kotex and always)

By that time, I expect that it will be much lighter, and I'll use my cloth for the remainder of the time.
