Disappointing False Alarm

I'm pretty bummed this morning. Started having contractions around 2 pm yesterday. Nothing major, but still enough for me to notice and time (10-12min apart).

DH called on his way home from work around 5 pm and I gave him a heads up that I was still having contractions (happening every 5-8 min). Since DD was already over at grandma's house, we thought it was best to have her stay the night so we wouldn't have to worry about her if labor really picked up throughout the night.

So we went out to dinner with her for what we thought was the last time as a family of 3, dropped her back off, said goodnight, and came home to wait out the contractions... and now at 7 am, 40w3d, nothing has changed and I'm so disappointed. :-(

I feel like we went through all that hassle last night for nothing. So now we have to go pick DD up at some point and explain to the family that it was just a false alarm. Ugh. Sorry this was so long. I needed to vent. Anyone else have something similar happen?

Re: Disappointing False Alarm

  • That's a major bummer. No false alarms yet but I'm 40w1d and getting incredibly anxious and annoyed. Was really disappointed this morning.

    Hang in there!!

No real false alarms but I've had painful contractions/cramps at night for about 2 months now. It's slowly driving me insane. They're never regular but often painful enough that I wake up ready to start timing and then nothing. So I empathize!

  • I had a false alarm yesterday as well, contractions were 8 mins apart for several hours. Then they just went away like nothing happened. I am 40+2 and my c/s is scheduled for Monday if I don't go into labor on my own. I was coming to terms on another c/s but then I saw this beautiful pic of a mom foing skin to skin with her newborn and it just made me upset. After my last c/s I didn't see my son for what seemed like an eternity.

  • I had a false alarm the night a got my sweep. I was having really bad back contractions 2-3 minutes apart for 5 hours straight I had a shower.. It didn't help so I called my mom to come over since I was having a home birth.. When she showed up she brought a heater pad which completely stopped all contractions it was a bummer! I did had her 2 days later though!!

  • Almost 2 weeks ago I started having contractions. By the time I started timing them they were 5 minutes apart. Hopped in the bath and finished writing out my birth plan the midwives want (very detailed and tedious thing). They picked up to 2-3 minutes apart with a lot of pressure. Called the midwife and headed on in to the hospital. 4cm 70% effaced. Contractions picked back up and quickly became difficult to talk through and I needed to rest between them. Did that for a few hours and things seemed to be progressing really really quickly, they thought I was close to pushing. Checked me, still at 4cm 70%. Turns out I had some weird fever/infection. Baby's heart rate was high, mine was high. 2 more liters of fluid slowed things back down to about 5 minutes apart then I got some stadol and phenergan at about 10pm and got some sleep. 2-3 bags of antibiotics and 4L of fluid total, sent home where the contractions finally stopped later than night. Worse day ever.

  • Ugh, that's frustrating. No major false alarms for me yet, though a couple times the contractions have gotten regular about 12-15 min spart for a few hours, then...nothing.
  • @Kris2011RN‌ - I have a RCS scheduled for Tuesday and was really really hoping for a VBAC. With DD1, I felt like I didn't see her forever as well after the c/s.

Luckily I found out from the hospital that they have a new "baby friendly" mandate which means at least 50 min of skin-to-skin after birth, no matter the type of birth. So there's a small bit of comfort, but I would still much rather avoid surgery if possible.

Hope your LO makes an appearance before Monday!

  • @RugbyMamma‌ My hospital does that too. I don't know if the hospital i delivered ds did that or not. I just felt like they spent a long time with him under the warmer until they let DH get him and bring him over. DH showed me pics of DS before I got to see him.
