STM help me with a non breast feeding question.

So I'm not breast feeding and am wanting STM advice on how long I have to deal with trying to prevent engorgement. I delivered last Saturday and have been putting ice and cabbage and preventing warm water from hitting boobs in shower. I've had different answers from every nurse and dr I've asked. My boobs aren't hurting really bad (they are achy and harder than usual) but not normal either.

I'd love to hear any of your experiences with this. Thanks! And I hope all you are doing great with either inside or outside babies!

  • No experience but I think I remember hearing sudafed or some other medicine can help dry you up quicker.

Sudafed or antihistamines, keep with the cabbage leaves, tight sports bra, and leave them alone. It'll be a week or so.

ETA: There's also a tea from Earth Mama Angel Baby called No More Milk Tea.

Wearing a bra 24/7 for a week or so helped with mine.

The Earth Mama No More Milk Tea dried me up in a few days. I would try that if you are wanting something quick.

  • My doula recommended eating lots of parsley when I am ready to stop breastfeeding; it's supposed to help reduce milk supply.

  • Thanks. They haven't been as bad as I expected but I'm just kinda waiting for it to get extreme.

  • They may not get extreme with all you are already doing. When I quit BFing it was about a week before I wasn't engorged and sore but I still leaked for a couple more weeks after that

  • Since you started off the bat trying to not let it come in, it may not get that bad. Mine took about a week or so but I had started out EBFing. I think I had heard peppermint can also decrease supply.

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

  • I was engorged for 3-4 days. DD is two weeks old today and I still leak but no soreness or anything.

My milk came in at Day 4 and I looked like a porn star.  I have been wearing my bras a size smaller 24/7 with a tight tank top over it and withstanding COLD, COLD water for at least a minute in each boob when I shower.

They have gone down about 4 days and I have had no leaking.  Will probably do the bra/tank top through next week.

    Good luck!

We FF'd from day 1 here. Milk came in on day 4 and it was fast an furious. OUCH. I tried various things but I dunno if they helped, bc it took several days to feel noticeable improvement, like 5 or so. I wore a bra 24/7, cabbage leaves, antihistamines (apparently the ones that actually help to dry up milk are difficult to find!), taking lots of Advil to help w the pain... I feel better now a week later, but still get a bit of a let down reflex. I wish there were some way to prevent it all!
