Moms and babies with thyroid issues

Do any of your babies have thyroid issues? My son is 10 days old and upon his first blood testing they decided his TSH was too high ( I have hashimotos and said it would be from me). So they tested again on day 3. Said it was fine. Pediatrician on day 4 said, "eh, still a little high" so we tested today and will get results Monday. Just curious if anyone has a baby with any thyroid issues or at least been through all the testing.
Thanks!

Re: Moms and babies with thyroid issues

  • Hey. Sorry you're dealing with this :(

    I have hypothyroidism. They didn't mention anything about testing my LO for TSH. Is that part of the typical screenings they do?

  • @nicole mackenzie‌ I think so--- I know they were more concerned just cause of my history. In your case, no news is good news. :) and thanks.

  • Going through this as well. 4 generations of malfunctioning thyroids on my side, and after the newborn/PKU screening they wanted Alera's thyroid levels retested. Came back low again, and now we have an appointment with a pediatric endocrinologist next week. T_T

    Aww so sorry. I hope everything turns out ok. So hard to see them poked. I dread the idea of him on meds.

  • Yeah, it was hard not to cry when they were digging around in her arm for one of her veins. She's got a bruise there now. T_T The nurse who called with her results said they called in meds for her. I have no idea if Synthroid comes in a liquid, but if not, this will get interesting real quick! x.x

  • None here, but I have Hashi's too. Nobody has ever mentioned thyroid testing for either of my kids.
  • Update from Alera for info.

    Pedi put her on Synthroid, will see what endocrinologist wants to do. Synthroid doesn't come in liquid, so it's a specially-compounded formulation made at our local pharmacy. Runs us about $30 without insurance for a 1-week supply. Must be kept refrigerated, given on an empty stomach and no eating for 30mins afterward. Endo appointment on Wednesday morning. x.x;;

  • Ouch. That sounds tough. I'm sorry you guys are dealing with this! Hopefully endo will have a better, easier and less expensive treatment! Best of luck to you and your girl.
