will not nap

Anya has not napped in three days. She is happy, buy not napping. It's a long day for my dad who is watching her. Any idea on how to get her to nap?

Everything. Rocking, car seat, setting, music, chamomile tea, :-(

  • Sadly some babies just don't nap. Our oldest has never been a napper. It made for very long days.

  • I find sometimes baby boots just wants to be left alone and then he'll sleep. if you talk, sing, rock, etc. he thinks it's playtime.

  • @lisa1129‌ I figured we were owed. 2nd baby was a great napper, still is at 20 months.

  • Keep trying! Only thing I can suggest is to try and make the nap routine as consistent as possible. I.e.: diaper, story, rock for a couple mins, then put down. Try leaving her alone for a while (obv. depending on your opinion of allowing them to fuss/cry). Hopefully she will get the message.

I'm in the same boat. Henry might snooze for 20 minutes in the car but that's it. I got nothing but sympathy!

The fuck? My kid would be a screaming mess after 3 hours of being awake. How long does your dad try to get her to nap in these different places before trying something else? How did she nap before you went back to work?
  • Have you tried a sleep sack? It's part of our night routine for sleep and I'll use it once in a while for naps of she's having a tough time falling asleep.

  • Naps are hit/miss with us. For a while when we first had him in daycare, he was barely napping at all. One day he had a combined total of 40 min. It was heartbreaking to see how exhausted he was at the end of the day. Earlier this week, he had a morning nap and then was awake the rest of the day, which made for a long day! He definitely wants to be asleep, 2 hrs awake time is his absolute max, but then even if I put him down at like 1.5 hrs when he just starts showing a little bit of sleepy signs, he fights it. Then other days, like yesterday at daycare, he takes great long naps.

He's always been an excellent night sleeper, so I guess we deal with crappy naps sometimes.
