Etsy Etiquette Q

I ordered a set of monogrammed wine glasses as part of a gift for a wedding shower I'm attending tomorrow.  Before ordering, I asked the seller if they'd have enough time to complete the order and get them shipped to me.  This was 5/3.  She replied back immediately and said that was no problem, so I immediately completed the order.

The shower is tomorrow 5/17, and the glasses haven't arrived.  They're kind of an integral part of the gift, and I'm a little pissed they aren't here.  The tracking order showed she created a shipping label 5/9, but they didn't leave her house until 5/13.  She was apologetic and blamed everything on the USPS.  Am I a bitch for demanding a refund if they aren't here by the time I have to leave for the shower tomorrow?  I mean, the whole reason I asked before ordering was because I wanted to be sure they'd be here in time, and she assured me they would be.

Also, I paid $10 for shipping, which I think is a little excessive for something that has, so far, taken over 7 days to ship.

Re: Etsy Etiquette Q

  • I would request a refund on the shipping at least since you had confirmation that they would ship in time. It sounds like she crated the label but didn't get it to the post office right away...

  • Yeah shipping refund sounds fair provided you supplied all the info needed at the time you placed the order and there wasn't a big delay between asking if it could be done and placing the order. I get at least one person a week ask if something can be done by x date then they either take days to order, so suddenly a 4-5 day turnaround is 1-2, or they forget half the info I need ;)
  • Shipping refund and if you can't give them as a gift {and you have in writing that they would be here in time to give} I would get ask to send them back and get a full refund. If you're OK with giving them after the shower, I would just go for the shipping refund.
  • They're for a cousin who I'm relatively close to (no pun intended), so I have every intention of still gifting them, I just wanted to be fair in my response to the seller since they didn't arrive on time, as promised.

I think a shipping refund is fair, since I want to give her the glasses when they eventually arrive.  Thanks for the feedback, ladies.

  • I'm curious of the store you ordered from because I had this exact same thing happen for my wedding
They were from HuffShuffLane.  The seller was a pleasure to work with, aside from the fact that the gift didn't arrive on time.

  • Can you call ups to see if the order actually was mailed the date she created the 'shipped' label? Sometimes sellers mark things as shipped when they haven't actually been mailed yet; however, I see this more on eBay. I'm not sure if they can do the same on etsy.
