Irregular contractions

FTM here. I've been having contractions since early this morning that aren't getting much closer in frequency but have just recently become extremely intense. Is this normal?? Is this labor??

We honestly can't tell you if they are or aren't. Sorry. $:\$

Do they continue if you lie down or recline with your feet propped up? Have you called your OB? S/he would probably be more help and might even want you to go to triage to be checked out.

Only your medical provider will know- if you're not sure, call. That's why they are paid the big bucks.

Have you timed them? Can you talk through them? Do they meet the 5-1-1 rule (5 minutes from the start of one contraction to the start of the next, each contraction lasting 1 minute, for one hour)? If so, call labor and delivery/your doctor. If not, but they're still getting worse I'd still call to be safe.

With my son, my contractions were NEVER timeable, but they did increase in intensity as the hours passed. The time between them would vary pretty drastically. And yet I was in labor. So if they are intense, call your doctor.

Until two days ago I would have said not labor. But the first 5 hours of labor for me contractions were 5-20 minutes apart. About 3 hours before baby was born they went to consistently to 5 and then 2 apart. The inconsistent ones hurt more than BH, but not a ton more. Call or go get checked out if you think it's time.
