Pregnant after 35

GTKY/Fun post: Excuses to deny you're pregnant

So, given our past history, we're not telling anyone if we can help it until we hear a heartbeat on the 30th. And then it's only going to be immediate family until after first trimester.

However, some of those pesky pregnancy symptoms have reared their heads and I have to hear my mom mock me about how often I have to pee and I can't say anything about why (of course, being almost 40 and having had my first baby only a year ago is a great excuse!). It's going to be a fun drive to CT in a few weekends when I make us all stop at every rest stop so I can pee.

So. What are some of the fun excuses you've given to explain away pregnancy symptoms?

  • One of my issues has been being bloated and gassy. When I'm at work (I work in home health with a 15 year old client), I try to hold it in but can't always do that. Luckily, my client has a great sense of humour and we joke about HIS tooting as well, so it's not as bad but when his little sister is around, he and I take turns blaming it on their dogs. LOL

  • I have a great group of GFs on my street and we always get together for wine etc. Well just before the last wine night I found out and it just happened to be a couple of weeks into Lent so I told all the girls I gave up booze for Lent. Since after Easter though I've had to miss some gettogethers and each time I blamed it on a bad migraine... They must be thinking I am falling apart haha...

I excused away not drinking at a few occasions with the good ol' "my stomach is a little off" excuse. No one really wants to press for details on that one.

I made the mistake of saying I wasn't drinking because I had a UTI and alcohol complicates it so I didn't want to make it worse. So now my mom and a couple friends are even more convinced that something is going on. I have also missed a few outings with the girls on moms night out but I've been blaming that on my daughters dance schedule and upcoming recital. Don't know what I can blame it on after that. Not done with the first tri until the end of June.
  • I'm still BFing, so I just blame the no-alcohol on that. You could always say that you're on allergy meds and were told you can have alcohol with them. Or, that you're trying to lose weight and so you are cutting out unnecessary calories as much as possible and would rather spend the calories on cake instead of alcohol?

I told people that I was on a new medication for my diabetes that does not combine well with alcohol. Which was true, but definitely wasn't a "fun" excuse.

I have been eating alot and no-one notices the bathroom trips. I was on a diet and just said I fell off the wagon. Some still question my usual multiple coffee trips so I just go and put a little in a cup twice a day. Noone watches me pour it. Lol

I put wine in a glass but when no one was looking would throw it away little by little. It worked ;)
  • We did not tell anyone about DD2 until our 18 week US. I only weigh 105lbs not pregnant and had no problem hiding it. I also vomit multiples times a day. I found it easy to just hide the symptoms without an excuse.

Isn't there some law against that? ;) LOL!!!

  • @Sharon&Paul: how did you not start showing before 18 weeks? I'm already bloated and a little thicker around the middle so my pants don't button without giving me camel toe.

And how do you hide vomiting multiple times a day??
