Re: Scared about inducement Monday :(

  • No advice but if you read through some other mom's birth stories you will see that lots of May mamas have had very successful inductions. I get being nervous though. Good luck!

    Thank you !
  • I had a successful VBAC induction three weeks ago - it was amazing. They broke my waters and gave me "low and slow" pitocin. I had my baby on my chest after less than twelve hours. The advice my doc gave me was to walk, walk, walk in the days before the induction. I walked a total of 8 miles in the two days before. I don't know if it helped but it sure did give me something to do!

  • I had an induction with my first and I felt like it went very well. From the time of doctor breaking my water to DS coming out was about 7.5 hours. I was given pitocin and I had an epidural. He was born vaginally. I would absolutely do it over again!

I'm in the same boat as you. Induction next week and scared out of my ever loving mind. This is my second, my first came on his own. :-/

Well I hope you good luck too! I'm sure once we have our babies everything will be done, but definatly a scary feeling.

It doesn't help that I looked up the medication they're going to use and it has freak reviews.. I need to stay away from google. :(

Also stay away from "dr. google" never hel

Also they keep telling me the baby's head is still high does anyone have that still happening ? I'm sure he could move down during the contractions right ?

Thanks, I hope it goes well for you. I just want the day to come so I don't continue driving myself batty. That's where I'm at right now and I've only known about the induction for 4 hours. Ahhhh!

That's crazy I found out today about the induction as well. :/ I'm very nervous but I have never had a baby this is my first so I would be nervous either way. Also I'm 13 days over due.

  • I was induced with pitocin after my water broke. I had a good experience, and had my baby 7 hours after they started the pitocin. My only advice is if you want an epidural ask for it when you start to get uncomfortable. My contractions ramped up very quickly and I wish I would have asked for the epidural an hour earlier.

Did you still end up getting the epidural ? I would like it but I'm terrified of having it done so I'm going to decide that in the moment. If you did it all natural how was it ?

I did end up getting the epidural but it didn't completely work. It was fine for about an hour, but as the baby got lower I started to feel extreme pressure and pain down low with my contractions. To the point where I was shaking and screaming. It sucked that it didn't work but I was glad that I felt the urge to push. It felt amazing once my midwife arrived and I got to start pushing.

I also wanted to add that when I got to the hospital my baby was still up high. The contractions will bring the baby down.

  • Glad you posted this- I too am being induced Monday- FTM, scared as well. All I know is that either way your baby will be in your arms in just a matter of days. Wishing mine would come in her own, I hear goods & bads with induction and it's so against my birth plan, but I will be 41wks and my dr won't allow me to go any longer... Wishing you a speedy & safe delivery.
  • Being induced Sunday and I'm also not thrilled about it but hearing the good stories helps a lot! Good luck, our babies will be here soon!

Thank you so much this makes me a lot less scared, glad too hear baby was still high for you too they say that every time they check me and it makes me nervous :/ glad to know contractions bring baby down. Thank you
  • Also they say my pelvis looks a little small but they said it could be because it's my first time, so I'm hoping it streches out with contractions and dialation. Ready too see my baby either way!

This is eerily similar to what happened with me as well. My epidural only seemed to work for a couple hours and then I felt the extreme pressure and pain. I felt every single thing while pushing but pushing actually felt good rather than sitting there suffering through the contractions.

  • I've only ever been induced with my two previous pregnancies and I'll be induced with this one on Monday as well.

I absolutely loved my inductions, my first was longer about 12 hours. Started with cervadil overnight, started pitocin the following morning (at 7am) pushed for 2 hours, had her at 7:33.

Second, had cytotec placed overnight, started pitocin the following morning at 7am, dilated from 4 to 10 in 30 mins, pushed twice, had her at 10:30am.

    Good luck!

My induction with my first was great!  It took a few days of gel to get things going, but once they broke my water and started the drip, it took a few hours to get to 5 cm and from then I had her in 25 minutes!

Also FTM here, also getting induce monday morning (40+5)... I am scared as well but keep focusing on the fact that by Tuesday my baby boy will be in my arms... It's scary though to think that it could take longer or dont work and end up with c-section. But we have to stay positive right?? Good luck to all of us!!! :)

I am still in the induction process now.

Yesterday was day 1 and I had 2 Cervidil treatments. I did make progress, considering baby is sky high and I had started with a fingertip dilation.

My biggest suggestion is to bring your pillows to your induction. You will have to lay on your side for 2 hours for monitoring once it has been placed. For my first treatment I was near tears from the pain in my hips and legs. Second treatment was much better with my pillow between my knees. Also ask them to help you switch sides halfway through the monitoring to relieve pressure.

I was induced with my first and managed without pain meds. The birthing ball and tub helped a ton. My baby was also high and not engaged going in. My midwife said this is normal and many babies don't drop until labor. This lo hasn't engaged yet either, and mw said she doesn't expect him to until labor. Good luck! You can do this. Remember- there's no wrong way to birth your baby.

    I love this thank you.

I was induced last Saturday night due to high blood pressure at 37 weeks. I was so anxious (also my first). I actually had a really great experience. It took forever, which kind of sucked, but DH kept me entertained with movies and kept me comfortable, plus my nursing staff was great.
My water was broken Sunday afternoon and I started pushing around 2:30 am Monday, and DS was born at 4 am.
I was a lot more comfortable than I thought I would have been, and wasn't in nearly as much pain. The last two pushes to get his head out were the only ones that really hurt.
My advice is to sleep as much as you can. During labor, I think I only got about two hours and the first two days with DS were ROUGH. If you don't get much sleep during, sleep every time LO sleeps. Everyone says it but it really is the best advice.

I'm curious did you have anything for the pain ?
  • Everyone this really did help I've been hearing so much about c sections due to induction. Thank you.
  • My cousin just had her first baby a few months ago, and had to be induced for medical reasons. I think she was 2cm dilated going in, started pit first thing in the morning, nothing for pain, and had her beautiful girl by 5 pm. I know people's experience can vary a lot, but induction really can go smoothly. Wishing you all good luck on Monday!!

This post makes me feel so much better! I am scheduled for induction if she doesn't come by Wednesday. I'll be 40+6 at that point. I feel like she's never going to come and I
will end up with c/s so this is very reassuring!

I was induced last weekend. I was nervous and scared of it ending in a c-section but I wouldn't have changed it for the world. I know tons of other people that have had successful inductions. I did get my epidural early on as the contractions were really intense. The hardest part was not eating or drinking. We went in at 5 Friday and I didn't have her until 10pm Saturday. By the time I ate it had been 31 hours.

since I'm a ftm too, I'll tell u my sisters experience. She was induced at 39.5 weeks electively. She got a miso pill the night before. Then sent home to "rippen". Then went to the hospital next morning around 9ish was given pitocin some time later . My nephew was stubborn and sunny side up so she had a lot of back labor never whined though....atta girl!! Got an epidural at 3cm. Took a brief 30-45 min nap. Was checked again and was 10cm!!! She waited about 45mins to an hour for the doc to get there. That was the worst part waiting!! He finally gets there and she starts pushing maybe 6-8 tops once she got the hang of it it was like 2 pushes and he was out at 1:58pm

    prob tmi,
My only piece of advice TRY to ppoop before ur epidural. Sounds nuts but if ur nervous about pooping on the table I'd at least try. My sister went before the epi and she didn't go on the table
