Come on in and let us know how your week went!

After being sick all last week and eating poorly, I'm finally back on track. Avoided the sweets and went to crossfit 6 days and ran twice. Still need to get faster but recurrent mastitis keeps interfering with my runs. But crossfit went well, all my lifts are up at least a few pounds

  • Between mothers day and fatigue, I haven't been to the gym at all this week. ::hangs head:: However I haven't gained weight, so I'm good with it. Back to the grind on Sunday!

Well the scale sucks because I've been eating ridiculous amounts...but, my running has been great this week. I'm at 23 miles so far and will be running 10 miles tomorrow morning.

@KateVA  My goal is to kick this baby weight this summer (thankfully school is almost out!) and start working out.  I've check out some apps for calorie counts to help, but they all say different things.  Do you have any idea a good caloric intake when trying to loose weight?

    Sorry not to thread jack!
  • Rough week.  Traveling plus sick baby = me not being able to go to crossfit.  I need to jump back in before I'm back to square one.

@MGalles‌ -- I have used SparkPeople in the past and liked it. They have a free app as well.

  • I worked out 3 days last week and am trying to get back on track with my eating. I've done really good the past couple days, now I've just got to keep it up over the weekend.

@MGalles‌ - I don't track calories so I'm not sure - I use google occasionally if I'm curious. I stick to a mostly paleo diet instead - meats, veggies, fruit and some nuts. No grains, legumes, processed food. I do eat some dairy, mostly cheese sticks since they are so convenient. I'm not perfect about it but any time I cheat on it and eat cupcakes or cookies (my weaknesses!) I feel terrible. Bloated, backed up, lethargic. If I'm strict, my energy level is much higher

How are you liking crossfit? It's the best thing for fast results. At the beginning it's hard because you are so sore and there are so many new movements to learn. Give it at least two months and you will be hooked just like me!

I wish I had the energy to get back in the gym!  I went for the month of April and then decided I was just too exhausted.  I wasn't going to my class every morning and I can't pay to go half the time.  I'm considering starting again next month, I'm just not sure if I can do it.

I hear ya. My 5:15 alarm is rough, especially knowing that if I ignore it I can sleep until 6:30/7. But it's just part of my routine. As a SAHM, it's my alone time and my adult time.

Sorry to steal this answer but a good calorie intake depends on your weight and activity level. I'm not sure if you are breastfeeding or not, but that affects how much you should take in too. The best (free) app out there is my fitness pal. There is even an option to input breastfeeding so it adds 500 cals to your day. This is the one I (and all the future dietetians I know) use.

I have to get up at 4:30 to make my class.  It starts at 5:30 and I have to pump before I go.  If I don't get up I can sleep until 6:15, it's rough.  I just don't know how to get back there and it's depressing.  I don't know why I'm SO exhausted all the time.

That is really early. Are there any other options? Can you possibly pump after? I nurse before I go but I do it 5:15 not 4:30 and usually snooze through it.

Where is this option??  I've looked for it and am apparently not smart enough to find it!

You have to add it daily as a food. Search breastfeeding. A few take off 500 cals but one adds it. So try a few.

Thanks!! I'll have to try that. And fitness pal app.

I did my 10k cold two weeks ago and only added a minute to my mile time. I feel like for not having run in 11months, it could have been worse.

I'm not eating enough, not drinking enough -- I've put myself, my health dead last, which I never intended to do.

I'm back in prepreg clothes but since I'm not toned I don't look anywhere near prepreg. 5 pounds to go, need to make some changes. Feeling a little down this week.

Only adding a minute to your mile time over the course of 6 miles is awesome! You should be psyched, not feeling down. Fitting it all in is hard, especially with the long cold winter. But summer is almost here, you can do it

I agree with @KateVA‌ that's awesome! My mile time is awful right now. But I understand not putting your self first. I'm in the same boat. I've got so much going on that I don't think about my needs. Except I wait too long, get really hungry and eat all the wrong foods. And still don't drink enough.

I have a 5k tomorrow. I hope I at least get close to my last time :/ but this time I'm pushing a stroller

Anyone tried T25?? It kicks your ass, and it's quick, hence the name. I've always been in the mindset that the more cardio, the better. But, since I started doing these workouts at home I've lost about 4-5 lbs in the past month (combined with eating much better). I used to work out at least 45 minutes a day, 5-6 days a week, and got nowhere. The T25 workouts are HARD!!!

Also, you can do a lot fitness-wise in 10 minutes or less. Sprint 1 mile. Tabata shuttle runs. 4x400m runs with 30 sec rest. Max distance in ten minutes. Longer isn't better

I love it, but it's hard as shit. I can't do a full mobility squat with any weight- not even the training bar. Running kicks my ass. I can't get my chin above the bar even with the thickest band. BUT I know if I keep at it, I'll feel incredibly accomplished. I hate that I've had to miss the last week, but I'll get going again Monday.

DH does it and has had great results.

  • Soooo if you read my Fitness Help thread you'll see I had a mini freak out about health planning. I talked to my sister today (she's graduating in 2 weeks with a BS in dietetics) and I feel better about knowing what nutrition information is "real" and what is just hype.

I was having some motivation problems lately but what really spurred me was Friday night for dinner DH brought home dairy Queen without consulting with me first since I was asleep and he didn't want to wake me. He got me fries, chicken tenders, pulled pork sandwich, and a blizzard. Sad thing is, this was all stuff I liked and probably would have chosen anyway. I just sat down looking at my dinner and realizing what complete junk it was. Not one fruit or vegetable. All processed. Then I started thinking about my other poor food choices over the past week.

What really solidified my kick in the pants was my moms birthday dinner tonight. My whole family eats pretty healthy, and for dessert we had not your usual birthday cake but fresh fruit with a healthy chocolate mousse dip. No added sugar. I was inspired and just downloaded some sparkpeople apps. DH packed a couple of brownies in my lunch for work, but I don't think I will eat them. I'll eat the apple, Mandarin oranges, yogurt, and peas instead. I also just got a veggie steamer in the mail to make LO's baby food, but I will be using that for me also. I can do this!

For anyone who uses sparkpeople my sn is sventurarn. Come find me!
