Airborne while pregnant?

edited May 2014 in 2nd Trimester
Have any of you taken/asked your OB about taking Airborne while pregnant? I have my second cold in a month (ugh,) and I bought some Airborne "Hot Soothing Mix" before it occurred to me that maybe I shouldn't take it. I called my OB, but I think they're closed for the day. Of course the box says to consult with your physician before taking it while pregnant. Here's the nutrition info from the back:

Any thoughts?

ETA - I've been googling it, but it looks like all of the questions/answers that came up were about the regular airborne, not this drink. I think the regular kind has more vitamin A in it, which is what most people were expressing concern about.

It might be fine, but I would personally skip it.  Just try and eat healthy (extra juice and fruits and chicken soup), and take your prenatals. Also, get adequate sleep. Colds suck, especially when pregnant, but I would stay away from these types of products.

Yeah, that's what I was kind of leaning towards. Sigh. Thanks for your input! Getting adequate sleep while my toddler also has a cold is the part that's killing me.

It says do not take if pregnant or breastfeeding. There is a warning label on it so yes I wouldn't take it.
It says "Do not take if pregnant or breastfeeding.... unless you have consulted a physician." You'll find that Tylenol and other "safe" category B drugs also say that about pregnancy because they want to cover their asses. That's why I called my doctor and asked if anyone else had asked their physicians.

  • I didn't ask about the drink, but the regular Airborne.  I was told not to take it because of the high dose of Vitamin A being potentially harmful to the baby.  As you said, this one has a lower dose of Vitamin A, but I would definitely see what they say first.  The nurse that I spoke with said that as long as I am taking my prenatal vitamins, taking other supplements for colds weren't necessary.  (Your body only absorbs so much Vitamin C, the rest is peed out).  Also, some of the herbal stuff in those supplements worries me.

  • I would definitely not take this. The "herbal blend" includes Chinese Vitex, which messes with your hormones and is probably unsafe during pregnancy.

  • Nope. You can achieve a similar effect with hot water & lemon.

  • I asked my doctor specifically about taking Airborne and he said no don't take it. I don't remember why, but he didn't hesitate to say no.

I really don't think it's helpful enough to make it worth it.

  • Don't take it! I specifically asked my dr if I could take it. She said it was a no go. None of the airborne products are safe to use during pregnancy.
