I saw my dr. Today for my 6 week check up and mentioned that my nipples are pink on the tips and feel raw and sore. Based on that description she explained about yeast growning and prescribed nystatin ointment even before examining my nipples.
Im hesitant to start treatment if this is perhaps normal? Or if possibly caused by a bad latch? It doesnt hurt at all to feed so i think my latch is good.
Does anyone have any expirence with yeast that can put some perspective on this?

Mom to Lily and Colin!
My DD has always had a great latch but it took about 8 full weeks before I didn't have raw nipples. I don't know if it's because mine hated the pump at first or what. (When DD dropped her midnight feeding at 5 weeks, I started getting up to pump it every night. Still do.) I would occasionally have pain at the beginning of a feeding for what seemed like a really long time and even went to my OB and asked about thrush (at about the 6 week mark, actually.) She could "tell by looking" that I didn't have it and eventually the pain stopped and I was also much more careful in the shower not to let water hit my nipples directly. I wish your Dr had taken a look! It's not like anyone is sheepish about baring things after having a baby anyway!
I hope it's not thrush! I say go with your gut. GL!

agreed. you don't want full-on thrush. it's awful. the cream is very mild and not harmful to your LO. use it for a couple of weeks until your nipples don't look red anymore.
you can also try to air them out as much as possible, use diluted vinegar on them (or in a bath), eat lots of cultured/fermented foods, cut back on sugar and refined carbs, and take a probiotic. but i'd use the cream even if you want to do these other things.
