May 2014 Moms

got some interesting news at the doctor today..............

So I went to my doc today and he dropped a bombshell on me. I've been having weekly non-stress tests since 34 weeks. I also had a growth ultrasound at 30 weeks. However they have been reviewing all my ultrasounds and NST strips and have come to the conclusion that my due date is off by about 2-3 weeks. I'm sitting here thinking I'm almost 42 weeks and instead I'm probably closer to 38-39 weeks. I go tomorrow for another growth scan to verify. We were so excited baby would be here soon but now we still have more waiting. I'm uncomfortable as it is. This sucks!!!!  ~X(

Whaaaaat?? That's...weird. I thought it was long accepted that ultrasounds past 15 weeks aren't reliable for dating gestational age because after a certain point they only measure size, which isn't necessarily the same as actual development. I don't think I've ever heard of a due date being adjusted this late in the game. Is this standard procedure for the doctor you go to?
    Edited. Goofed on a number.

My first ultrasound was around 24 weeks because before then we didn't even know I was pregnant. This whole pregnancy has been weird and strange. The doctor at the hospital where I get my NST done says my placenta doesn't looked "aged" to be almost 42 weeks and I have too much fluid to be almost 42 weeks.

  • I can see that based in how late you found out about your pregnancy. I have a friend who found out she was pregnant in February. They estimated she was due in May. Baby was born in March at 10.5 lb. It's very difficult to date later on. And who knows... Their new guess date could be totally off as well!

Okay, yeah, if you didn't even have the initial checkup till 24 weeks, that makes more sense. Must be a crazy feeling, though. Sorry you didn't get more encouraging news. :(

Just got home from my NST and growth scan. He is about 8lb 12oz and they said they feel comfortable with inducing me this Tuesday. So Tuesday at 7am we go in for my induction. Crossing my fingers all goes well and no c-section but at this point I just want this baby out of me and healthy, regardless if I need a c-section. I'm just so happy I know when he's coming. FINALLY :)
