Any Suggestions

To help cope with insomnia and restlessness? I lie in bed, some nights for four our five hours and just can't drop off. Also, I can't get comfortable. But it's not so much pregnant and can't get comfortable, it's more like my body *has* to move. My limbs will actually start twitching if I don't get up and adjust.

I got some Hylands homeopathic restless leg tablets.  They dissolve under your tongue.
There hasn't been a ton of research done on using them while pregnant, so I only use them sparingly.
They've helped me when I'm having a rough night.

i was getting this a lot (and am not sleeping well today, as it is now 4 am though it is not due to restless legs this time).  i would start to get comfortable and then my legs would need to move and reposition.  i started using a magnesium spray since my np says that you absorb it through your skin better than through your digestive tract.  i just spray it on half an hour before i shower, and it has really helped a lot this last week.

now if only i could get back to sleep after peeing then i would really be set.

  • Have you tried taking an evening walk?

Every day. We have a dog and we dug up our back yard to replant grass this year, so we walk her several times a day.

  • If you're awake that long, I recommend actually getting up. Don't do anything involving screens (which can upset circadian rhythm), but quietly read a book, make a to-do list for the next day, anything to deal with whatever is going through your mind. It feels less helpless than just lying there, in my experience.

I have had on and off insomnia since I started my own business last year. I think it is related to the underlying stress. I am fine all day, but then some nights my brain wont shut the F off. It went away first tri, but came back last month I think. When I can tell it's going to be a bad night, I take a half of one 25mg sleeping pill (I use an off-brand, but it is the same ingredient as Benadryl which is considered safe) The actual dose is 2 pills, but even before pregnancy that would leave me groggy. So now I take 1/2 of 1 pill and most of the time it is enough to bump me over the edge into sleep. My Doctor okayed this at my last visit.

I sometimes get the urges to move, and a few nights ago I had it where I just could not freaking get comfortable, and that night the pill did not help. =(

Good luck! I know how miserable it is to lay there! =(

  • I've heard eating almonds before bed is supposed to help. Hope you figure something out :)

Not sure it will help you or not, but I can't tolerate caffeine after something like 3pm lately or I'll be tossing and turning all night. I try to not eat anything after dinner is over ~7:30ish and it seems to have helped somewhat. I'm sorry you're dealing with this -- insomnia is so frustrating!
