October 2014 Moms

Dear Anti-vaxers, I wrote something special for you.

***I know the UO thread is probably dead and gone, but I can't stand that people still believe there is a link between vaccines and autism. The stupid hurts my head, so I wrote this. It took me a while to finish, which I guess is why I'm posting at midnight.***

Dear: Anyone who admits to thinking that they still believe there is a link between vaccines and autism.

I don't really care how much 'research' you've done, or who you talked to whose kid has autism and happened to be vaccinated back in 2002, or bla bla bla bla bla.

This is all I hear:

"There was this one time a couple years back when one of my friends was searching vaccinations and this link called www.thegovernmentisouttogetyou.com came up. She read this thing by this ex-doctor guy who cherry picked a few kids with the symptoms that he wanted, and wrote a couple paragraphs saying that their parents thought their children's autism might be linked with the MMR vaccine. Her tiny, fragile mind was blown.

She took it as fact because, well, it’s on the internet, right? We agreed, 'not everyone is allowed to post things to the world wide web. This information MUST be absolutely true.'

One day at a playdate she told me that babies crying during their vaccinations is proof that they know that poison is not meant to be injected into their tiny bodies. It made sense to me. My baby clearly has a wisdom and a closeness with his being that I, as his mother, simply do not possess… maybe he was trying to tell me something. I mean, just take one look at that scary list of top secret, highly advertised ingredients! Sure mercury is commonly found in apples, but APPLES DON’T GET INJECTED INTO YOUR BLOOD STREAM! No doctor would approve of that.

The next day did more research googled the issue, and found a ton more pages like:

www.mommymakesuseatrightsowewontgetsick.blogspot.com

www.thedarkagesbeforemodernmedicinewerewaybetterthanthisshit.com

www.jennyknowsall.org

www.imahipstersobeingcontraryiswhatidobest.net (They even had a chart with arrows and moustaches. Moustaches are important.)

The information cut through to my very soul. I didn’t understand half of the words on the page, but oh boy did they sound awful… and long. They said scary sounding things like ‘vaccine shedding’, ‘BIG PHARMA’ and ‘kale smoothies’. It was all very terrifying. Whatever they were trying to say, they said with so much passion that I couldn’t help but trust that what they were saying, confusing and contradictory as it seemed, was true.

Immediately I picked up the phone to fire my paediatrician. I couldn’t believe how foolish I had been to pay someone like him for advice and care, when I had all of the information I could possibly ask for just one click away from Jenny. Bless her soul. Her website provided me with everything I could possibly need, including matching tin foil hats for the whole family.

It wasn’t long before many of my friends became concerned with my newly hopped bandwagon. I started seeing all sorts of nonsense on Facebook about ‘The Measles Virus’, ‘Herd Immunity’, and ‘Polio’… Geeze… I mean, wasn't that made up by big pharma to sell vaccines? Besides, I’ve never even met anyone with the polio.

And really, if their kids are vaccinated, why do they care if mine is? Sure, no one wants to see my baby suffer and die from a preventible disease that he could be actively spreading to others while still in the early phases… but c’mon! I love my baby, and surely that is enough to keep him safe and sound. Plus, we eat vegan… or maybe it’s palio? either way, it is definitely gluten free.

There I was being attacked by so called ‘friends’. No one at my back to say ‘It’s alright, we all do our best. It’s not your fault that your baby is more important than their babies, and they don’t get it'. The crushing betrayal made me weep for days. My sweet Kaediynne IS more specialer than their kids! He doesn’t deserve the very small chance of experiencing an incredibly rare, often mild reaction that vaccines pose! 'Social responsibility', ‘herd immunity’ and the 'immuno-deficiant’ be damned!

So for all of you haters out there, don’t bother. I’m way too far gone to be brought back to the realm of common sense and science. With google on my side, my ignorance will never cease to amaze you."

The end.
