Earned a few more grey hairs

So, T is now tall enough to reach the deadbolt lock.  How did I discover this?  He locked me, D, and our dog out of the house today.

We had been outside playing in the front yard and came back in to get some lunch.  I had D in the stroller so I could keep him close to us and in the shade, since he wasn't feeling the sling today.  Got T in the house, shoes off, water cup, and told him to wait there in the kitchen for me while I got D out of the stroller in the garage.  I left the door to the garage wide open so I could hear T.  As soon as I got to the stroller, I heard the door shut.  I left D and ran back to the door, which T had already locked.  I had no key and no cell phone on me, since my pants had no pockets and we were just in the front yard.  Luckily, my neighbors are retired, and I left D with them and borrowed their cell phone to call DH to come home from work (about 15 min away).  Longest wait of my life, with my toddler screaming for me on one side of the door, and me on the other trying to coach him to unlock the door.

Between that and the ER trip last night, we've had quite the 24 hours.  Is it Friday yet?

Re: Earned a few more grey hairs

  • @summergirl1211 - Last night while we played outside he decided to run off, and I took his hand to lead him back to our house.  He went limp and decided to flail a bit, and I felt a pop in his wrist.  He was uncharacteristically hysterical for a long time and wouldn't move the arm at all.  Turned out he had nursemaid's elbow which is essentially a slight dislocation of one of the lower arm bones at the elbow.  They put it back in and all was well, but it was an extremely stressful experience.

I was seriously worried that they would think we'd wrenched his arm or hurt him on purpose and we would be hearing from DCF.  But everyone seemed like they saw this type of thing all the time.

  • OMG that would have been the longest most traumatic 15 minutes of my life. I would have been a wreck. I would be screwed it Cooper locked me out. She found out hide a key and hid it from us! No clue where it is

  • Oh my. Hugs to you momma! Cortlandt ended up in the ER for stitches 2 weeks apart and I swore that they thought we were abusing him. I kept telling them we were good parents, the nurses kept laughing and telling me he is just a boy and it would be my first visits of many.

Hopefully everything settles down in your house for a while :)

  • Omg I know how frightening that is. Tucker did it to me once and I ended up finding a gift card in my car to jimmy the lock with. We put a spare key outside right away!
