I had a dentist appt this morning so had a sitter stay with my son. She's 20 and in college and fabulous! So she was asking me questions when I got home about finding out about this baby and telling H. I told her I tested very early after ovulation since I had dental work to e done that day and was pregnant. This lead to her asking about how pregnancy tests really work and how long it takes for hormones to build up in your body.
I was able to share the things I learned through these boards, mostly lurking on TTGP, about when ovulation actually occurs, how it's different cycle to cycle, basil body temp and such. I suggested she read Taking Charge of Your Fertility for extra information for the future. She's in no way interested in having a baby right now, but she said it was interesting how much they don't teach you in school.
Re: Passing along knowledge
It's like they bought into the story that a stork delivered them.
WHAT?! You mean a stork didn't bring me?!
@funnibunni80: Yes, I think I was in my 20's when that movie came out. I'm 34 now...so anyone who knows the year it came out can do the math. Too lazy to look it up.
When we decided to TTC#1 back in 2009 I started by looking up all the info I could about TTC. I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility and found out about charting and ovulation tests. That is my personality, research the heck out of everything!
I never really knew about how you can only get pregnant a few days each cycle. I also didn't realize that EWCM was important. I just found it really annoying and when I was younger I thought something was wrong with me. Why am I getting all this annoying discharge? Then when I learned the reason for it, I wondered why they don't teach girls this stuff.
ETA: Mean Girls came out in 2004, so I don't feel that old anymore, I just think BabyM is young!
