I haven't seen anything posted about the fires and I can't remember if anyone is in that area. I hope if you are, that you're staying safe and are out of the way of the fires. So scary! We used to live there and can't imagine the type of destruction this is causing.

I'm in the area, one of the main fires today was just across the lagoon from my house and we're now getting smoke and ash from the fires building up above the house. Trying to stay cool and calm and hydrated. LO has been quiet all day but the last hour or so she's been moving around and I'm getting what I hope are BH contractions pretty regularly. FX it calms down soon otherwise I'm calling the midwife.

Stay safe guys! I am in Northern ca but was living there in 2003 during those fire storms.. Its a scary situation! Stay hydrated and keep a plan of evacuations open just in case!!! ((Hugs))

A lot of my friends that are there are saying the same thing. I kind of agree. It's too much of a coinicidence to have them the way they are. The pictures that they're posting are crazy.

i live down here in sd and the heat and air quality have been horrible. luckily we havent been evacuated but my sil and family were. they still cant get back to their house so they have no idea whats going on. going through this never gets easier no matter how many you make it through! something about a fire is just terrifying. thanks for your concern ladies! i just hope the winds stop and the heat breaks soon!

edit: totally agree that this was arson.

We live down in the city (south of the current fires), so no evacuations here. Schools are closed, but other than that we are just sending all of our positive thoughts up north, hoping they get them under control soon, and hoping that the weather breaks soon.

Thanks for checking in @katburdette‌ and the rest of the crew!

We were in the evac area for yesterday's Bernardo Fire. My husband came home from work and we packed up our cats and our essential papers and were ready to go when they announced that our corner of the community (we are in Rancho Penasquitos) was cleared to stay.

I can not stress enough how utterly brave and amazing the firefighters have been and how many homes/lives they have saved. Real life super heroes!

It is going to be a long fire season. We are actually formulating a better emergency plan for evacuating with an infant and two special needs cats. Will probably have an emergency bag packed and ready for each family member until next November!

Hope you all are clear of the smoke. I went into work today just to avoid it at home but it's quickly over taking the coast.
The images from San Marcos today are heartbreaking... praying all of you and your loved ones are out of harms way.
Also make sure you're hydrating in this heat! We actually broke out the baby's humidifier last night and set up an air purifier too to improve the air quality in our room. Any of you come up with creative ways to clear the air who don't have air conditioning?

I'm glad everyone is okay. Fires are so scary. I agree with @internationalkate it's going to be a long fire season in California. I grew up in LA and am in Napa now. Packing an emergency bag for everyone is a great idea.

@meritmacalpinethat is really smart with the humidifier! the dryness has been really hard to deal with. i stayed home from work today due to the fires and it is just so hot at home with no a/c. i just hope they get these fires under control fast.

@lola4411‌ I could breathe SO much easier last night with the humidifier! Wish we had broken it out sooner! I stayed home yesterday because of the heat but the smoke was so bad this morning I figured it was better to brave the heat? Can't wait for this weather to break!

ok I may get flamed for sounding like a huge moron for asking this but these fires had to be started by someone and the heat and wind just make them worse? or can the actual heat itself start the fire? I know some ladies were mentioning possible arson and I always thought these wildfires just started because it's so hot.

either way it sucks and it's scary and I'm thinking about all you SoCal ladies. hope everything gets under control soon!

It's the heat and the wind that make it worse! It's perfect fire weather right now and people are idiots- starting fires that are hard to contain.

I have a friend who was getting off the freeway yesterday behind someone who did that and it started a small fire which her husband was able to put out. It's just prime conditions right now, dry hot windy with humidity at 7% and under...

Sending good thoughts to everyone in the area. The pictures look really bad, even by California summer fire standards. Stay safe!

@stephross88 I'm in Northern California, which is somewhat less hot, dry, and windy than Southern California, but those conditions make it very easy for fires to spread. So yes, they are frequently started by people, although often accidentally, and then the wind and dry conditions cause them to spread. My county is under a fire warning because it's been so dry this year and our area is considered wooded. My town has 5000 people and two fire stations... they take it VERY seriously.

Remember the 3 week heat wave we had last year??? The last day of it was 4th of July!! Northern Ca kept getting up to 119!! Soo miserable!! Im so afraid its going to be like that again this year!! Our poor little ones aren't going to know what cold weather is!! =[

I don't remember last summer getting as hot as it's been this week, so hopefully this is just som crazy heat wave.

Where did you live last June/July during the 3 week heat wave we had??? LoL 3 weeks of 105-119 it was miserable!!!

Also they are saying this heat isnt even a "heat wave" because heat waves are technically 3 consecutive days of 100 and above and we have only had 2 =\ just like it can rain but if it doesnt hit a certain percentage (like .5) in a rain tube it technically "didnt rain" even though it really did. Hahaha (this is what happens when you're friends with a meterologist!)

People who start these fires are fucking stupid. They put so many people in danger. We're from SoCal but DH is a firefighter here in NorCal and this year it's extremely dry and they are expecting a busy fire season due to the drought.
