November 2014 Moms

Any other VBAC mommas?

Hey ladies! Just wondering if anyone else on here is going for a VBAC with this pregnancy, or if any have had one previously. I had an unnecessary c-section with my first, and had quite the traumatic experience all around. We are definitely shooting for a vbac with this baby, and I'm so glad to have found an amazing OB who is fully on board!  I know there is a VBAC board, but wondering if any November mommas specifically are going for one too.

Forgive the wording, feeling like crap atm.

  • I'm going for one 100%. I know nothing is guaranteed in pregnancy or labor (or life I guess) but I am doing all I can to increase my odds.

Good luck to all of you!

I went for a VBAC with my second. While it wasn't successful, I do not regret it whatsoever. It made me feel so much better about my need for a csection - with both pregnancies. Before I had my second, it was hard for me to even watch A Baby Story with all these moms gushing about how beautiful delivery was because I felt my csection was so traumatic. I am SO much more at peace now with both deliveries.

I hope all the ladies considering a VBAC to go for it (obviously as long as its safe for mom and baby).  You can do it!

  • My first was a c-section, and I've two successful VBACs; I'm hoping for number three this time around. I've spent some time on the VBAC board, and there's definitely a lot of good information there if you're looking for something specific. I can also answer questions about my personal situation if you have any. Good luck!

I am interested in some info about your vbacs.

    Hospital?

Is there one thing or multiple things you did that you feel helped with your success!

    Natural birth?

Any advice for us hopeful ladies?

  • I had an emergency c-section w/ my first and I am going to try for a VBAC this time around.

I was shaking so badly from the adrenaline (fetal distress) that they had to pump me full of anti-anxiety meds and my recovery was terrible: uncontrollable shaking, couldn't stay awake, held my son briefly but only with someone holding him on me because I was shaking so bad, then all night I was waking up to vomit and then falling asleep again. A nurse came in to formula feed my son every few hours for that first day. Now looking back, I hate that he was bottle fed because I was too out of it to breastfeed.

  • Mostly just wanting to meet other ladies that are taking the VBAC journey with me :).

If you haven't already ladies, I highly recommend looking into an ICAN chapter close to you. I have learned so much from mine, and the support is incredible <3

  • I desperately want a vbac!!

my water broke but my body wouldn't go into labour yada yada yada

I haven't even had a single contraction :( My midwife said the hospital I am delivering at this time is way more vbac friendly. The OB and hospital is way more willing to work with we to get a vbac if that is what you want.
Audrey is going to be a big sister!

I didn't know there was a VBAC board - thanks for the tip!  I'm hoping for a VBAC as well, similar to @Maelara I had to have a c-section with DS because he was breech, not due to medical complications or anything scary, so my midwives say I am an excellent candidate for VBAC.  Fingers crossed for everyone!!!

All of my kids were born in hospitals. The oldest was a failed induction a few days after my due date, the second came on her own at 41w4d (they wouldn't induce me so I had a c-section scheduled for 41w6d if she didn't come on her own before then), and the third was born on her due date.

After my oldest was born, I started getting back into an exercise routine; for a while I alternated between an exercise bike and Wii Fit; by the time I was pregnant with my youngest, I was doing the bike exclusively at least five days a week. I don't know for sure that it helped, but I've heard that regular exercise can help your body be more prepared for labor and delivery, so it seemed to be worth a shot.

No natural births for me, I had epis with all of my kids, and I plan to do so again.

The main advice I tend to give women in this situation is to talk to your doctor(s) and find out what their plan is when you get to the end of your pregnancy. In my case, my doctors (I've gone to two different practices and seen a lot of doctors) all agreed that I could go to 42w as long as I got regular monitoring once I was overdue (which mostly consisted of non-stress tests every few days), and that I wasn't a candidate for induction, so at 42w I was looking at an automatic c-section. I've seen a lot of women say that their doctors are pushing for them to schedule a c-section for 39 or 40 weeks, and they only get the VBAC if they go into labor on their own before that point, which for a lot of women is just not going to happen.

    I hope this helps. :)
  • @flutterbuggie The main concern is a slightly increased risk of uterine rupture.

So I guess I am not very knowledgeable on c-sections (this is my first) but what is the reason that it can be harder to deliver vaginally after a c-section?  I am not trying to be snarky or anything I generally am really curious.
There is a higher risk of uterine rupture if you have had a previous c-section because you have an incision in your uterus.  There are all kinds of other things that factor in that make your risk of rupture higher or lower though.

*edited because what I said before didn't make any sense.

  • We are hoping for one. My doc says things look good for one, and the only reason I had a CS last time is due to fetal heart rate (dropped HARDCORE with each contraction), I hope my body and baby can handle a VBAC, cause I'd really like to try to have a vaginal birth.
