Hi
When I left the hospital I was told to feed for 20 min on both sides every 2-3 hours. At first this seemed ok because I'm assuming my milk was still coming in, although it was in about 2 days after birth. Whenever I feed my baby now she spits up A LOT. Yesterday she projectile vomited 3 -4 times. My husband thinks I'm feeding her too much.
I pumped last night and the milk started flowing almost immediately (is that let down?) and I pumped 3oz on each side in 20 min. Is her stomach big enough to hold all of this? If not, no wonder the poor thing keeps puking. Her bottle of formula last night was 2 oz but she spit up everything around 1.5oz.
Today I've only fed her for 10 min (actively sucking) one side each session and she seems to be holding it down. She doesn't seem hungry between feelings and is satisfied after those 10 minutes. If I try to give her more, it just comes right back up. She's making enough wet & dirty diapers and her activity level is fine (sleep/play).
I feel bad because I feel like I should be feeding her more, but if she's satisfied after 10 min, is that ok? Did this happen for anyone else? Thanks!

Re: 9 day old feeding time
Last feeding was only for 3-4 min (actively sucking) and she spit up. I just fed her now (2 hours later) and she only ate for 4 min before pulling off. We burped, offered again, and she ate for another 5 min.
To clarify, I wasn't feeding on both sides unless she seemed hungry (trying to keep it even). I fed her formula because it was my husband's birthday and I had a beer. Granted it was 4 hours prior to that feeding, but it wasn't worth it to me.
Be careful of pumping this early as you can easily trigger over supply. If baby's is not miserable about spitting up, it's a laundry problem, not a medical problem. Let her eat when she wants however much she wants. We're 6 mo in and she spits up ALL THE TIME still. DD quickly did not need 20 minutes. I'm pretty sure my LCs said 25 minutes total sucking per feeding. However, that an general estimate, do what works for you guys. Also remember formula and milk have different concentrations of caloris so they are difficult to easily compare.
