I was up for a promotion at work and everyone including management kept telling me that the spot was mine, I was meant for it and I was the best candidate. Out of no where a friend of mine that had just recently returned to the company after a year away went for the spot too without telling me until the day of the interview. Well I just got the call and they gave it to her! I'm so disappointed and hurt. This promotion would have meant an extra $500 a month in pay and better health benefits which obviously I could really use now. At least I have the weekend away for a wedding to calm myself but it's not like I can drink.
Re: Just need to vent!
Could you go talk to HR or your interviewers and politely ask what you could do/could have done to have gotten the position?
I've been in my same position/pay grade for 18+ months now, and have constantly been talking to management and HR about what I could/should be doing for a promotion and a raise. I also asked, for the one internal position I applied for why I wasn't selected. It can't possibly hurt to ask.

I find that SO incredibly frustrating about getting employment or being promoted; how can a person LEARN it if not given a chance to do so?
