Pee pee in the pottay!!

I'm pretty sure it was most likely accidental but I put LO on the toilet before his bath and he peed! For those potty training do you still use diapers or did you switch to pull ups to help make it easier?

Yay! That's great! We are still using diapers for now. I may give it a couple of weeks and then switch. We definitely aren't ready to go to underwear yet, but the pull ups may be a good transition.

  • That's great for your ds! we do pull-ups and dd is not fully potty trained but she is going more regularly. The pull-ups still open (or i should say pull apart) like diapers so they are great for potty training.

I PT DD at 14 months (my other 2 around that same time). We went straight to underwear for daytime, naps & bedtime.

    Congratulations!!
  • Add us to the club! DD peed in her potty chair before her bath tonight :)
  • How on earth do you know when/if your kid is ready to start potty training? Mine pooped in the living room last night during naked-time and has developed a habit of peeing on the porch every night before bath-time (which doesn't bother me at all) - still only sees the toilet at something to try to stick his toys in.

Actually, the reason I thought I would give it a try was because Ainsley kept either standing up in the bath to pee, or she would pee on the floor as soon as she got out. It was starting to drive me nuts, so I thought if I put her on the potty immediately before and after the bath, she might actually go. And she did! She was not otherwise interested or showing signs at all. I just thought why not give it a whirl. If she does it, great. If not, no big deal.
  • I've known several family members & friends with little boys who did basically what I'm doing now. Let him run around outside naked & first teach him to pee outside then transition to the inside potty. Killian understands that the dog goes outside to potty & when I said I had to potty he pointed outside & asked "Potty?" I laughed & said Mommy & Daddy & Killian go potty inside. That night he pooped on the porch...  /:)

  • Honestly I'm not sure he's ready to be potty trained but to prevent him from peeing everywhere after his bath I put him on the toilet before and after. It's only actually worked the one time. He does say potty but I'm not sure if he has to go or if he just likes the word or he wants to play in the bathroom but if he does say it we will take him just so he knows what it means. He just recently started to grab at his diaper either right before or right after he pees so I might use the as a signal too. We are not hard core potty training but we're definitely consistent so we don't confuse him.

We PT my youngest DD at 14 months old for daytime, naps & bedtime and went straight to underwear (had to use boys 2T & roll them). Very easy, took just a few days. My other kids were PT around the same time. Having a boy, I would be cautious about the peeing outside thing. At this age they don't understand modesty/what's appropriate. We were at a BBQ a few years back & a 2 1/2 year old boy we didn't know who is newly PT his parents did that & literally in the middle of it all he dropped pants on a tree. We didn't teach DS about standing up until he was almost 2 1/2 & by that time had been trained for over a year. I just couldn't feel confident in a 17 month old's aim.
