Yeast Infection-help!!

So I have a very uncomfortable yeast infection. Started off last Friday or Saturday with my clitoris feeling raw and itchy, then moved to the inside itching as well. Lots of discharge. Of course i figured I have a yeast infection. Got the Monistat one day medicine, used it two days ago but it has not helped.  I am so missing my Diflucan. Anyone have any suggestions for a yeast infection while pregnant? this is seriously hampering my barely there sex life.  :((

  • I read that it is a class D drug and shown to have risks for the baby. Also last time I was PG, I got a yeast infection and they said I couldn't take it, that I had to use Monistat.

  • The longer courses of OTC stuff also work better than the one dose version.

  • @TJ1979 Unfortunately I had taken the Diflucan before I found out I was PG, and then when it reoccured shortly after, they told me not to take that and only use OTC meds. That PG ended in M/C so I then tortured myself for a bit, wondering if the diflucan had anything to do with it. I also just read this a.m. on the APA website to only use creams and suppositories when PG.  I wonder why your OB is prescribing it?

@Rrrrrachel Last time I only used the one day and it worked good so I figured it would be fine, but I guess not. I guess I will have to try out the longer one. I hate paying $ for that crap.

    Has anyone used yogurt?

  • https://www.drugs.com/pregnancy-categories.html A good explanation of the ratings. I was on a class C antidepressant when I got pregnant. The doctor suggested I stay on it and she didn't think it was very dangerous. I ended up going off it though since I was close to not needing it anymore anyway. Class D says that it only presents a risk but the benefits of the drug may warrent it's use by a pregnant women. The next class (X) is the one where it says that it has shown actual fetal deformities from it's use during pregnancy. I don't think that means that fetal deformities where found every time though.

I guess it's just one of those things where some OBs may be more cautious than others. I was also on meds for bipolar but one of them I was taking is absolutely not safe and I have to take them paired together, so I chose to go off of them, just as I did the first time I was PG. I'm having a much easier time this time around.  Did you go back on the meds after birth?

  • No, I was close to weaning off of them anyway and other than the baby blues for about a month (exacerbated by me having to be in the hospital so much) I haven't had any recurrance of depression symptoms.

This is what I have found too.  It's a class C if you take one single dose, which is all I had to take.  It is a class D if taken other ways.  And some OBs consider taking a single dose of diflucan better than taking 7 days of the cream.  So I'm okay with it.  I wouldn't take it routinely, but it did the job.

  • Coconut oil. Everywhere. It's safe internally.
How would I do that? Just slather it on me/in me? I have never used coconut oil for anything so I'm not familiar with the consistency of it or anything.

  • You might look into starting a probiotic supplement too.  The good bacteria will help your body fight off the yeast.

Yes I thought of that too. I do drink Kefir almost daily which I know has probiotics in it. I don't know anything about buying the supplements, I'm assuming they have them at the health food store....

  • Acidophilus (SP?) You can get it at Walmart (any pharmacy type place) but it is probably a better version if you get it at a health food store.

  • This is what was recommended to me by my ob/gyn. I had recurring yeast infections until I started this supplement. It is worth every penny. I get it at my health food store and it is refrigerated.
