Groin Pain (not lightening crotch) almost 30 weeks

hi ladies

I've been having this pain come and go for a while now since I was at 26 weeks actually. I feel like my pelvic bones are getting disconnected- seriously it feels like they are held in place by fishnet wire at times -, I've got an achy bone pain on the sides of my groin especially when I'm getting up and walking, I feel like my legs will fall off sometimes.

My weight gain is so far at the minimum recommended amount for my per-pregnancy BMI, calcium and blood count reports are great, and I fast walk daily and try to workout as close to daily as possible.

Is my body preparing for labor? does it happen this early on? does it mean I will have the baby early or is it normal?

I just looked up SPD, it is mostly definitely it!

my pain however isn't sharp like getting hit it's more achy, like how you feel when you have a bruise somewhere or the second day after a fall but yeah...it is SPD from the descriptions I found, so this is going to last till the end of my pregnancy....the joy!

  • Why don't you relax on your working out and give yourself a break for a few days to see if that helps? I've worked out 3 days in a row this week and my legs were hurting last night when I finally rested. I realize I need to back off and let my body rest. They say to allow your body a day of rest between workouts even when not pregnant.

I try to keep a good workout routin and try to do it daily but by no means do i actually succeed at that, i would do 3-4 days then rest for 3 then back for 2 days then off for 4. Sometimes am forced to stop cause i have so much other things to do after work or am just simply tired and think i should rest. Legs cramps and aches i found to be related to too much workout and standing up but not this pain on the sides of my groin it doesnt elevate by resting

  • I'm definitely getting this pain as well.  I'm at 35 weeks and have been getting it for at least the past month.  Good to know there's a reason behind it.  I had my chiropractor adjust me yesterday, and it almost hurts worse now than it did, so I'm going to keep getting adjusted.  Explains why I have a hell of a time getting dressed, especially putting on and taking off pants!
  • I have this too. Just talked my midwife about it this morning. She suggested that I decrease the cardio I was doing (long walks, stationary cycling, elliptical, etc.) and try to swim instead. The repetitive motion exacerbates this. I have the same thing -- not shooting but dull aching down there made worse when I walk, stand, or even sit for too long. It definitely feels like my pelvic bone separating or something. Pretty standard though totally unpleasant and presumably only going to get worse. I just squeezed my giant self into my old one piece and going to try to hit the gym at the Y tonight because I definitely need to get some form of working out in -- I get a little too in my head and anxious if I am not active. Oh, and my midwife also suggested a chiropractic adjustment by someone that specializes in pregnancy -- so for xinightingale, I hope your next adjustment makes it better as I am planning to do the same!

  • Try seeing a physical therapist too. Mine gave me some exercises/stretches that have helped a bit. Icing and getting my hips taped helps as well.

it hurt so bad yesterday trying to flip while going to sleep, every time I change positions it hurts..it was so annoying.

I have an appointment tonight with my chiropractor and with my OB and I will make sure I mention it to both.

that's the most annoying thing right now, trying to find a good position to sleep. I need to start hitting the pool starting next weekend

  • I had SPD during my first pregnancy and I REALLY hope I don't get it again. I had to go to physical therapy once a week and any type of exercise hurt to no end because just simply walking felt like my pelvis was cracking into two pieces! :(
Wearing a pregnancy belt everyday helped and sleeping with a pillow under my rib cage seemed to help.

Here's my blog about it with the recommended excercises from my physical therapist...

  • I got a belt to help take some of the pressure off my pelvis...its called the mini cradle.  I got it on amazon for like 13.00.  I wear when I'm walking or standing alot.  Kegeling before you do something you know will hurt it helps some to.  Good luck.

  • Ahhh! So that's what it is! Second pregnancy and I've been having the same issue. I tried to explain to the Docs but apparantly they didn't comprehend what I was dealing with. Mine started around the same time as yours. It scared me thinking "why would I feel so much pelvic pressure so early?"
I mostly feel it when I'm getting in and out of bed and if I have a full bladder and getting up from sitting position.

that's exactly when I get it too, so resting doesn't solve it! cause u rest with your feet up then you get up to go to the bathroom and bam it feels like your pelvic bones have shattered into crumbs

  • Hi! I'm new here (my first post/comment in fact). I was just getting on to post something very similar. I'm 31 weeks and have the same issue. I believe I had SPD with my last pregnancy. This time around I've had more low back pain than the SPD pain...until yesterday. I was playing outside with my son who is almost 4 now. He threw a ball & I twisted or moved too quickly to catch it & have been in tear inducing pain ever since. My low back completely locked up, the groin pain flaired and the pain/pressure in my lower abdomen was horrible. I was literally crying last night trying to stand in the kitchen to make him dinner. I had hoped rest overnight would relax the muscles and relieve some pain, but no luck. I'm walking VERY slow today. Holding on to walls/tables as I walk. Has anyone else done a small movement and actually made it worse? I didn't think it could get worse until yesterday! I'm afraid to move any part of my lower body.

when I get out of my desk chair at work and turn while getting up at the same time I get bad pelvic pain the same happens when I'm getting up from using the toilet, I have to hold onto a wall, it isn't this severe though, you might need to see a doctor?

  • @JustGoWithIt sounds like maybe you threw out your back and/or pulled something. It could happen when not pregnant, too, but I'm sure feels a lot worse with all of the extra stuff going on. Call your doctor, no reason to be that miserable!

I get that feeling. Mine usually isn't painful (except at night when I'm trying to turn over). It mainly just feels icky & weird. I feel like I am going to break in half or something, like the two sides of my body are not fully joined & hanging onto eachother by a thread. Creeeeeeeeeeeepy!

    Edit: Typos

  • Spd isn't really a pressure. It is more like someone kicking you in the girl bits right in front with a steel toe boot. It is a piercing constant pain dead center and directly on the bone

It is also accompanied by the feeling your legs may become disjointed at any time from the ball and socket.

I got put on bed rest twice last time and the only thing that truly helps is birth. However wearing a pregnancy brace can significantly help slow down the pain because if it is truly SPD it will slowly get unbearable. Eventually it can get where you can't even lift your legs from sheer pain.

If you don't have a brace get one. It only makes it worse going without
