Just need to vent!

I was up for a promotion at work and everyone including management kept telling me that the spot was mine, I was meant for it and I was the best candidate. Out of no where a friend of mine that had just recently returned to the company after a year away went for the spot too without telling me until the day of the interview. Well I just got the call and they gave it to her! I'm so disappointed and hurt. This promotion would have meant an extra $500 a month in pay and better health benefits which obviously I could really use now. At least I have the weekend away for a wedding to calm myself but it's not like I can drink.

  • That's just wrong.  I'm so sorry.  :(

Could you go talk to HR or your interviewers and politely ask what you could do/could have done to have gotten the position?

I've been in my same position/pay grade for 18+ months now, and have constantly been talking to management and HR about what I could/should be doing for a promotion and a raise.  I also asked, for the one internal position I applied for why I wasn't selected.  It can't possibly hurt to ask.

  • That really sucks, I'm so sorry that happened to you. Can you perhaps talk to your management to find out where you could potentially improve? It sounds like total BS regardless.

  • I asked what I could improve on and was told I'm not as versatile through the company as the other candidate. Fuck that the promotion was for my department and the one next to it, why do I need to impress the people at another branch!

Thank you ladies for all the support it really helped my day
  • That sucks! A similar thing happened to my DH recently, so I can sort of understand. Just goes to show you can't trust management

  • Did they tell you HOW you could gain 'versatility' in your current position?

I find that SO incredibly frustrating about getting employment or being promoted; how can a person LEARN it if not given a chance to do so?

  • Well, that really blows. To be honest the feedback seems like a copout really. I'm sorry that that happened to you. You're right though, at least you have the weekend. And next week? Stay away from that "friend". I'd punch her if I were you (not literally but pretend). ;)
