Re: CPW: Purse/tote/bag style

  • I ask because my tote dilemma has got slightly out of hand. I have a giant tote with 1/2 my pantry and 1/2 my bathroom "essentials" that I almost never eat or use plus a pair of gym clothes and I'm pretty sure it's been 2 months since I've been to the gym.  Oh, and I also carry a water bottle AND a lunch bag (separate from the food in my tote).  It's madness!!!!  I need to downsize I'm starting to feel like Mary Poppins!!

I carry a medium sized bag for my purse. Inside is a wallet, makeup bag, wristlet, sunglasses and other misc "essentials". I also have a large LV Neverfufll that I use for work, travel as a carryon, or weekends when I just have more crap to carry around. I love the Neverfufll but I don't think I could make it my everyday "purse"

I've adjusted to carrying a small mini-backpack. Here me out, though! It's not a patent leather monstrosity from the 90s. It's super charming, and it's small so it keeps me from lugging too much gear around.

Though I'm guessing that is all going to change in about 6.5 months, right?

well, i voted tote but i probably should have picked purse.  i have a messenger-style bag (it's a lot smaller than a real messenger bag).  it's very hipster-y.  it's made out of some kind of brown soft cotton canvas material with a grey branch painted on the flap and loud purple patterned bird applique.  i even have buttons pinned on the strap.  i call it my +20 bag of holding.  my nerdy partner informed me that "pluses" are only given to weapons and shields/armor, and i told him my purse doubles as a weapon.  HA.  i keep a wallet, a small umbrella, a little mesh zip bag with odds and ends (spare tweezers, ear plugs, collapsible scissors--seriously, you have no idea how handy they are, spare nail trimmer, eye drops, extra chapstick, a couple alcohol wipes, etc), my prescription sunglasses which are in a huge case, USB stick (a holdover of my grad school days), check book, a couple pens...and that's just the main body.  there's a zip compartment inside full of various lip glosses, a mirror, and a pocket knife, and two pockets on the outside (but under the flap) where i keep my keys and cellphone.  and i'm sure i missed something in there.

so not half my pantry and and half my bathroom essentials, but a surprising amount of crap for a 12x10x6 bag.  i also have a teeny crossbody that fits my wallet, cellphone, keys, and a lip gloss for "going places" (i.e. bars for live music...hence the ear plugs in the list above).

  • i also wanted to paint a picture of true madness for you.  my MIL (late husband's mother, not partner's mother) cannot seem to go anywhere without her purse plus at least three totes (two small ones and one medium).  they contain various things like extra shirts, hats, sunscreen (because that whole family is afraid of the sun for some reason...MIL thinks she's allergic because "i broke out in hives once!!!"), extra chapsticks, like 10 bottles of water, papers with "important information" on them (like a list of family birthdays and addresses/phone numbers), gadgets and knicknacks and packs of blank file cards in case she needs to write something down, enough snacks to feed a platoon for an afternoon, extra socks, 3 or 4 calendars/planners, at least two dozen pens...it's freakin' bizarre.  the woman needs her head checked.  lol

I love my mini backpack! And just for future reference, it makes a great hands free diaper bag.

This time I'm not leaving without you.
  • I put SS because I've been all over the place lately since DD#1.  I always had my lovely purse but then it was a pain to drag my purse and her diaper bag so I started putting my phone and wallet in her diaper bag.  Her diaper bag went from an over the shoulder (what a PITA) to an Eddie Bauer backpack (so much easier).  Now, she is in a tiny bag that doesn't leave the car much so I have my purse bag.  Not sure why, but I just purchase another over the shoulder Coach diaper bag that looks alot like an oversized purse that I should be able to get all of our stuff into but we'll see.
