I'm celebrating a victory!

I just have to AW this because I'm so excited.

Some of you may know that my DD is one of those babies who refuses any kind of synthetic nipple, and it has been stressing me out. We've tried numerous bottles and pacifiers and she cries as soon as you put any of them into her mouth. We've tried breast milk and formula, we've tried different people giving her bottles, and she just hates it all. We've had the most success with the Avent Soothies, but lately she hasn't even wanted to take that at all. This was really stressing me out because I want her to take a bottle if I need to leave her, in the past she has just not eaten when I had to leave her for a couple of hours.

So I have continued to try and give her a bottle. I don't force it, but I keep trying at different times in hopes that something would work. Today, she was really sucking on her hands a lot and so I tried the pacifier and she took it. I was feeling confident and decided to try some breastmilk in a bottle. I kept her on her play mat and brought over the bottle, and she took it!!! I just about threw a party! She only drank about an ounce and a half, but she didn't cry at all and I've never been able to get her to drink anything, so this was a huge success. I just wanted to share with some people who "get it"! And of course this happens after I ordered a $20 4oz mimijumi bottle, but today could have just been a fluke.

tl;dr - DD finally drank a bit from a bottle!

Anyone else have any victories they are celebrating lately?

@katags she drank from the Avent Natural bottle. She really likes the Soothie's, which are made by Avent, and the Natural is one of the more breast-like bottles so it is the one I've been trying the most.

Babies are so funny. I tried those bottles for 3 weeks and DD refused them every time. Who knew bottle feeding could be so complicated!

  • We tried a bunch of expensive bottles, then one day I thought to try out the medela bottles/nipples that came with my pump and Voila!  He likes the cheapest option I have!
Congrats and I hope she keeps it up for you.  My DS2 also would only take the bottle from me for about a month after we finally got him to take one, then one day I had DH try again and he had no problem taking it off of him. It was like a switch was flipped for him.

  • Great news! What a relief that must be.

  • Great news, I bet that is a huge relief for u. :).
  • Congrats!  Thats awsome!

  • Great news!  DS also refused the bottle for a long time and we tried every brand out there. My mom finally realized he refused to take one if he was being held, so now she gives him the bottle on his playmat or in the swing and he takes them just fine.  Babies are interesting creatures!

Thanks ladies! I tried again today and she has been a bit more fussy because she is starting to teethe but she did drink some again. So I think if I keep at this she will be able to take a bottle from time to time. Such a relief. :)

  • HOORAY! My DD only takes the Avent Classic bottles and seems to think Soothies are made of fire and poison. She's only taken MAM pacis a few times.

That must be such a relief! Hope it continues!
