Does your June 2013 baby watch tv?

I just recently started putting cartoons on when I have to put lo in his porta cot. This would be just a few minutes while I run to the bathroom etc. My dh is so upset that I'm doing this and asked me not too. Do your lo's watch any tv?

Re: TV?

  • Like you, I only put it on if I really need him distracted. Usually it's if I need to take a shower and it doesn't line up with when he's napping. I dvr Play With Me Sesame on Sprout and he will watch that from his jumper. I like that one because it's the Sesame Street characters, but it's only 25 minutes long, doesn't have any commercials, and a lot of it is the characters talking directly to the camera (so like they're talking to LO).

Other than that, if it's been a really rough night, sometimes we watch the beginning of the Today Show while I drink my coffee. For some reason that helps me feel more like a real human being.

  • We have the TV on a lot- but B rarely pays attention.  It is pretty much just on for me.  We never really direct his attention to the screen at all.

He does notice the theme song to Modern Family and starts dancing around when it comes up.  He doesn't even look at the screen, just dances where he is.  It is very cute.

  • None. We keep it off while he is awake. He goes to bed by 7 before our shows come on. There wasn't an option for that on the poll so I didn't vote.

  • On weekends sometimes my hubby gets up if she wakes up early and when I come down they are snuggling watching cartoons. Otherwise I don't put anything on for her but sometimes I have to tv on for me. She doesn't pay much attention to it unless music comes on then she glances at it.

LO does not watch any TV and will not until he is older.  You didn't have an option for that, so I voted under an hour since zero is under an hour ;-)
  • I have Mickey Mouse clubhouse on now for ds1 while I pump and ds2 is paying no attention to it. That's how it is all of the time with him. Ds1 doesn't even watch tv either. Maybe 1 episode of Callie's Wild West of Mickey Mouse clubhouse per day. He's never been interested in the tv either. He does live his iPad though. He loves music and watches nursery rhyme songs on it.

  • The TV is always on as background sound but he never watches it.
    This, too.
  • Once a week I turn on Curious George so I can cut her fingernails. Otherwise, only if we're desperate. So she probably watches about 45 min a week.

  • I have the tv on all day because I need background noise. It's on nick jr until about 3 lol he watches is while he drinks his morning bottle or when he's fussy and sitting on my lap but other than that he's too busy playing with toys or beating up the cats to pay any attention to it. Every now and then a catchy song will come on the tv and he'll stop to dance. It's pretty damn cute.

  • MH is deadset on no tv before two so LO watches zero tv, which is a bummer for me because I'd like to have it on as background noise.  When I take him over to my parents house on the weekend, they always have golf on so he gets to see a few minutes, but he doesn't seem to be interested.
  • I chose 3+ hours because I keep the TV on almost all day as background noise. LO glances at it every once in awhile when theme songs or jingles come on. So, I guess my vote is inaccurate- more like 45 min - 1 he combined.
  • I put sprout on when we come downstairs. She watches it while she plays and it gives me a chance to do a quick morning clean up and cook her breakfast. After that I either turn on cooking channel or turn it off altogether. Occasionally DH turns it back on for her in the late afternoon for a little bit. Once in a while she'll stop and watch but it's mostly just background noise.

  • I have the tv on pretty much all day. DD probably watches about 2 shows (full on sitting down and staring at it)- sesame street (we normally miss the first 30 mins of it), and super why. Everything else is basically background noise and she isn't interested. I voted 1 hour.

  • He very rarely pays attention to the TV. Even when I put cartoons on. So less than an hour here.

  • LO doesn't watch any TV yet. I don't have it on much - usually when she's already asleep.

  • DH and I will watch the price is right if we are around. Mister only pays attention when they spin the wheel other wise he is crawling around. I have started pulling up episodes of Sesame Street on my phone if he is losing it and it's too early for bed. He will only watch for a few minutes though.
  • TV is always on for background noise and it's always on Nick Jr. or Disney Jr. but he doesn't really pay a lot of attention to it.... Really he'll only pay attention is if there is a song playing on the show....like the opening song for Bubble Guppies.... He'll all ways stop what he's doing to pay attention to it and then once it's over he'll go back to playing.

Sounds like my LO is the only one who will be in a complete trance while TV is on I swear its just like DH. He watches a lullaby show every night before bed to calm him down. It just has pictures of babies and kids and songs. He is obsessed with bubble guppies I let him watch 1 episode a day usually but while he was sick last week we watched a lot more than that. So an average day about 1 hour.

  • None really. She only recently (like in the past couple of weeks) has shown any interest in the T.V. I'll turn on Sesame Street or Super Why in the morning and every now and then she'll glance up for a minute or two or she'll crawl in my lap and watch a couple of minutes, but no more than that.

    This, too.

This. We usually always have the tv on as background noise. LO shows no interest in sitting still long enough to watch any tv. Sometimes if he is on another room and hears the special agent Oso theme song on he will charge out to listen to it. He stares at the screen for that one minute and then bolts out of the room again. I do not think my child will ever sit still for a full show or movie, even if I wanted him to.

  • No TV time here either. I very rarely have the TV on if LO is awake. When DH is home with him they listen to the radio for added noise,  but I guess I like to hear the silence between the tears-does that make me sound old???
  • I'm sorry, but are there really one year olds on here that are actually watching over 3 hours of television a day? I don't know if I'm judging or just amazed at their attention spans.

I'm not talking about @PSNLS, or those that just have it on for background noise. I can't actually believe that any child this age can possibly watch that much T.V.

  • @TheTamedShrew‌ I put 3+ because it's on for background noise and that wasn't an option. Grayson is too busy playing to notice the tv on unless he hears music and then he starts dancing and then goes right back to playing.

None here as well. We keep it off during his awake time. More because I've noticed that I don't interract with him as much because I'm disracted; he's not that into it yet, although I did notice him glance at it occasionally when we've forgotten to turn it off. There wasn't an option for none / close to none, so I didn't vote either.

We do Disney Jr. in the mornings to have some distraction while I prepare breakfast.  After that, she doesn't care what's on and doesn't pay attention...except if it is music videos.
