Help! Baby keeps biting

I really need some advice, my baby got his bottom two teeth and has started biting. I yell "Ow" when he does it, but he just looks at me and smiles. I've tried putting him down and stopping the session but he just does it again the next time. I am getting to the point I'm hesitant to nurse him because of the pain :(

  • I have had luck pushing his head into my boob (basically so he can't breath) he lets go (so he can breath) and then I offer the boob again. Sometimes I have had to do it three times in a row, but I can tell he doesn't like it.

  • This happened to me also with my first son. They are too young to understand when you say Ow. What works for me was to just watch him very closely. No TV. No iPhone. As soon as he stopped nursing I would delatch him And remove him from my breast. When they are latched they cannot bite. It is when they are done eating and start to delatch that they can bite you. It is usually a phase. Only lasted a couple weeks. See kellymom.com.

  • My LO went through phases of this after each pair of teeth has come in (he has 6 teeth now).  It was the worst after the top two came in.  It lasts about a week or so, but then it seems that LO figures out what to do with the new teeth in his mouth, and goes back to nursing normally.  None of the "tricks" to prevent biting worked for me either - it was just a matter of time.

Hope your LO gets over this phase soon!
