  • How far along are you/EDD?  14w2d

    What makes you High Risk?
Type 1 Diabetes, Asshole Thyroid  (my thyroid isn't on my asshole, it just behaves like one)

    How are you managing?
So far, pretty well.  My a1c (overall "grade" of how my blood sugars are) is 5.7 and they want me below 6.5.  My thyroid was 1.7 and they want me below 2.5, so so far so good.  Going to the Diabetes doc and OB monthly, although OB visits will increase as I get farther along.

    Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions.
I had some brown spotting this morning which I know is normal but it is still nerve wracking!  It seems to have slowed down though.  The nurse I spoke to said it may have been due to recent intercourse (we had sex on Monday?).

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant?
    Naps, haha.

Kinda off topic, but when you have baby I've been
Wondering if we will see pics? Or know name?? Or will it be a plate of baby nachos and known as baby nacho lover??? Hahahaha. I have this vision of what you look like in my head, and it's not nachos. HahahA

Haha, I will definitely share the name, not sure about pics.  I'm weird about posting pics online (other than FB).  Perhaps though!

I've been referring to baby as my little tortilla.  :)

I know you think I look like Kate Upton, but actually I look more like Jennifer Aniston.  hahahaha

Kinda look like Jennifer love Hewitt.

  • I'm in! Thanks @missnacholover I also have an asshole thyroid not on my actual asshole ;)

    How far along are you/EDD? 11/21 - 12 weeks 6 days

What makes you High Risk? I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and with my NT Scan also found out I tested low for Paap-A which puts me at risk for pre-term labor, low birth weight and pre-e among other fun things.

How are you managing? I'm excited that the baby will have its own thyroid developed within the next week so I won't have to worry as much about mine effecting its development. Trying not to think about Paap-A too much since it seems like there isn't a lot known about it and it could end up being nothing. Overall trying to stay positive since this is all out of my control.

    Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions. Not right now!

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant? Binge-watch TV shows on Netflix. Recently got hooked on The Americans and Orphan Black. So good!

  • I'm 12wks 0days and due Nov. 27th

High Risk due to age (41), previous abdominal surgeries resulting in malabsorption syndrome (then why am I gaining so much weight! :p) and episodic SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth as a result of a blind loop and narrowing due to scar tissues) Oh and the adhesions!

Lots of specialist appointments. Two gastroenterologists following my vitamin absorption and have been seeing the high risk OB since 5 wks. Trying not to be a nervous wreck and to think every twinge is something going wrong.

Currently waiting for Panorama results and trying not to get too excited until learning the results, which should be in by next Tues.

Coping by talking to friends and DH and totally napping like crazy! I swear I fall asleep at the drop of a hat.

  • This check-in is a great idea!!! Thank you for posting!

How far along are you/EDD? 15 weeks as of today

What makes you High Risk? Oh so many reasons. I'm old (42), had pre-eclampsia with my son (I needed 2 blood transfusions and was pretty banged up for a while after delivery), I'm overweight, and I have autoimmune issues (my bloodwork did not specify the need for lovenox, as my anticardipholin and antiphospholid antibodies were not considered positive, but I take baby aspirin every day). In short, I'm probably nuts to be having another kid. My son is on the spectrum, and I'm having another boy. To say that I'm worried about this baby is an understatement.

How are you managing? Honestly, I'm really not, all that well anyway. I've been having a lot of problems with anxiety and depression, but do not want to take any meds for it, for obvious reasons. My husband has been very understanding, and shoulders the things that stress me out. I am going to start acupuncture again, and find a therapist. And get more sleep. When I don't sleep, which is often, I am much, much worse. I need to be as healthy as I can, so this kid can cook until the end, and hopefully I have a much better delivery than with my son. I still think my son's delivery contributed to the issues he has now, as did my pre-e. I am terrified of that happening again.

Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions. I have an appointment with the oby today, just a check in to see how you're doing appointment. They will also likely send me for my baseline toxemia screen today. I just hope they find a heartbeat with the doppler. That's my biggest concern

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant? Seeing my friends makes me happy. Unfortunately, most of them are two hours away (I moved away from my hometown). For a Mother's Day present, my husband got all of my friends to commit to meeting me for dinner at one of my favorite restaurants back home. That's on 5/31. I am counting down the days until I see everyone. Hopefully if all continues to go well, I can announce to them all that day too (once they see me not drink, the cat will be out of the bag anyway.)

    How far along are you/EDD?
    14 wks 6 days/ Nov 7th
    What makes you High Risk?
I'm old or I guess technically Advanced Maternal Age (37), I hate that term, I much prefer pregnant with life experience :)

    How are you managing?
I'm much better after my panorama test which took *forever* to come in (10 business days with 2 weekends).  Although now the stress is building again, can't wait for my next U/S (anatomy scan).

    Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions.
I hope it is ok to join your high risk group.  DH thinks I'm crazy and super stressed over nothing, it's just after being married 12 years and hearing friends and family say, "when are you going to have a baby, you know you're getting too old now, right?" it kinda sticks... Plus I'm officially being seen by a high risk OB :)

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant?
Napping (@JustJainey, the narcolepsy does ease off at some point), Eating (especially watermelon and mangos), and watching baseball (football in the fall-if I'm in labor on a Sunday, you know the TV's gonna be on)

  • How far along are you/EDD? 13 weeks tomorrow! Due Nov 21 but because of my high risk issues I wont go past 36-37 weeks so it will (hopefully) be an Oct baby. Dr says our goal is 32 weeks and anything after is a bonus. 32 weeks?! PLEASE cook longer baby!

What makes you High Risk? I have anti c antibody (similar to rh stuff but no shot for it) that was not monitored last pregnancy because my OB was a jackass. Resulted in baby girl developing anemia and getting Hydrops and me losing her at 5.5 months. :( Likely that the antibody will affect all future pregnancies but now I am so closely monitored that we will be able to intervene (via intrauterine blood transfusions to baby) if it becomes anemic. Uggggg. I also have extreme irritable uterus.

How are you managing? I love my MFM. He has been giving me ultrasounds every 2 weeks to make sure no hydrops. At 16 weeks I start going in every week for a specialized ultrasound called an MCA scan where they check the blood flow in the baby's head...that is how they tell if it is becoming anemic.

Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions. I am a wreck. I cannot lose another baby. I feel goof I am being monitored so closely but I just want to hit 24 weeks so I am at least in viability.  On a positive note, at the US yesterday the dr said he cant say 100% but is pretty sure its a GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited but of course my first thought was "I don't want to lose another girl!"

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant? I haven't found one yet...open to suggestions. :)

@aa98‌ I'm surprised they have you listed as high risk just because of your age. I'm almost 40 and would not be listed HR based on age alone.
And to even see a HR Dr, that is a anxiety builder in of itself.
I'm still able to see my MW along side my MFM dr, consulting in.

    Hope your pregnancy is Uneventful!

VIoletFlower-hoping good things for you :)  I'm so glad you found a good MFM doc that's keeping a close  eye on you

lisaren-I think it may be because it's my first and I am a bit stressed about it. My original practice was a non-high risk midwife/ob combo practice but they stopped delivering at the hospital where I wanted to deliver (level 3 center with a great NICU) so I switched. The new practice said since technically I was AMA, I could see a MFM.  I'm sure my OB rolls his eyes after each of my visits :)  I have been lurking on all of your threads trying to think of what to say, just know that I am thinking of you and praying for your LO.

  • @lisaren have they done any of the testing you were talking about for turners or any of the trisomy? Or was the amnio the only way they could have done that? When is your next Ultrasound? I am soooo happy there is no hydrops yet....I am really rooting for you and your baby!

How far along are you/EDD?  15w1d, due 11/5

What makes you High Risk?  Lazy thyroid, ulcerative colitis (although I'm med free right now, never know when a flare could come), ADHD

How are you managing? taking my thyroid meds, lots of sticky notes, and praying every time I feel like I have to poo

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant? going to bed as early as possible.  My daughter and I go to bed at 8, sometimes a tad earlier.

  • How far along are you? I'm 13 weeks today- due November 20th.

    What makes you high risk?
I had severe pre-e starting at 26 weeks with my 1st baby and had him at 30 wks. I have a couple of clotting disorders as well and take baby aspirin.

    How are you managing?
I see a MFM doc as well as my regular OB and praying aspirin helps like it seemed to for my second pregnancy(never developed pre-e). This is my third and praying it all stays uneventful.

What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant?
Long walks on the beach by myself ;) but really that's my favorite way to clear the mind! I hope we make it to the beach this summer!!
  • I'm due 11/11, so I think 14 weeks 2 days

I'm high risk because I have a heart condition called atrial fibrillation. A-fib is rare in young people but common for true geriatrics. It means I have a much higher risk of stroke and heart attack. Pregnancy exacerbates the problem. Thankfully, baby is not high-risk and a-fib shouldn't cause the baby any problems unless I have a stroke or heart attack. I get a lot of heart palpitations as well but those aren't dangerous like afib is.

I am managing. I'm actually waiting on seeing whether my ob is kicking me out of her practice. They are voting. My testing is done with a high-risk practice already. The question is whether I have to switch over there completely. I check my heart rate whenever I have symptoms and am trying to see if there is any way I am triggering them.

To destress I try to think only positive thoughts, no what-ifs and I sleep as much as possible each night. I also walk to work and back everyday to get some fresh air and exercise.

  • How far along are you/EDD? 14 weeks 2 days. November 11th.

    What makes you High Risk?
I have a large 7.5cm subchronic hemorage that they are watching closely and I have been put on rest.

    How are you managing?
The worst thing is not being able to pick up my 18 month old. I can't put him in his crib, can't go anywhere alone with him. Last week he woke up he said 'Dada' instead of his usual 'Mama'. As happy as I was for DH I was soooo crushed. My baby didn't call for me because I can't do anything. :(. I am trying to keep a very positive attitude. I have a beautiful 18 month old and if this pregnancy is meant to happen it will. I pray every day that it will.

    Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions.
I wish it wasn't a wait and see sort of deal. That's my vent. I just want an answer.

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant?
When my hubby gets DS out of his crib and puts him in my arms to cuddle. Nothing beats that feeling.

I've been reading everyone's posts. I am so amazed by how strong you all are. I am lucky to be a part of N14.
  • Is anyone interested in doing this?  I thought maybe once every week or two for us high risk N14 ladies.
    Great idea!
  • Thank you for posting this! The high risk board is not very active, so I'm looking forward to checkin in here!

    How far along are you/EDD?
I am 11 weeks, due 12/4 but will be induced no later than 11/26. So it's easier to say my EDD is 11/26. :)

    What makes you High Risk?
With DD I had GD and developed HBP and postpartum Pre-E. I am also intolerant to mag, which is not a great situation. My HBP is now chronic and I am on Labetelol.

    How are you managing?
I'm ok. To be honest, last pregnancy was so nice because I had no idea I had any issues until 30 weeks. Did my GD test last b/c I had no risk factors and didn't develop HBP/Pre-E until DD was born. All the extra monitoring as an official high risk patient this time around as been overwhelming. The extra u/s and appointments with MFM are just making me anxious. I need to get over it!

    Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions.
Nothing specific, looking forward to keeping up with this group! Have to do a 24 hour urine on Tuesday and my first glucose test is this week, I'm sure I'll fail. wah wah

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant?
Napping! It can't happen often because I work from home, but I can occasionally sleep during DDs afternoon nap. It is blissful.
dx: MFI 0% morph & low count. Occasional Anovulatory cycles.

What makes you High Risk? Sickle Cell Disease; Prior myomectomy (softball size fibroid); 2 consecutive miscarriages; major fibroids

How are you managing?-Ok.  I am already a tired person, so I am very tired now. Just have to get more sleep and drink plenty of water, which is difficult being nauseous.

GTKY: Wat is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant? Sleep, sleep and more sleep. Good weather.
  • How far along are you/EDD? 15w1d / Nov 5

    What makes you High Risk?
Asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia, premature atrial contractions, history of early cervical cancer, depression, sleep disorder, among other things, but those are the main ones.

    How are you managing?
My asthma was their biggest concern at this point, they have me using my Flovent (inhaled powdered corticosteroid) every day and it is helping.

    Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions.
Even though I am on the lower end of high risk, I still can't stop worrying. I think maybe I'll feel relieved once I grow more, and can feel the baby moving and be certain that is what I am feeling, and of course, after my next MFM appointment on June 11 at 19w.

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant?
Laughter. Comedy. I love comedians. Louis CK is a favorite. We also love Impractical Jokers, and we're going to see The Tenderloins in Baltimore June 13.

    How far along are you/EDD? 12 w 6 d / Nov 22nd

What makes you High Risk? I have IC (Icompetent cervix), MTHFR, history of preterm labor, as well as fibroids and placenta previa. I lost my first baby at 20 weeks, where we discovered all of my problems; then went on to have a 1st trimester loss (blighted ovum). I then had a successful but very nightmarish pregnancy and my miracle son is now 8 years old.

    How are you managing?
doing ok so far. I go on Monday for the cerclage (MFM will stitch my cervix shut) so I'm ready to get that done. It didn't work with my son, but I know every pregnancy is different.

Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions. This was an OOPS! pregnancy..... We said we NEVER wanted to go down this road again because of all of the complications with my son. It was a scary, awful time and now we're doing it all over again! Still have moments where I think I'm going to wake up and say to DH "You won't believe the crazy dream I just had!"

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant? lots of rest, prayer and support from my family and friends.

10/16/04 ~ lost our first baby boy at 20 weeks due to IC

                                                  3/05 ~ another loss at 12 weeks

2/14/06 ~ Our sweet valentine miracle was born after a nightmarish 8 months!

Surprise Baby Boy, born sleeping at 31 weeks on 9/21/14

  • How far along are you/EDD? 12 weeks 3 days due November 25

What makes you High Risk? Septated uterus

How are you managing? Eh. I get to see baby more so I'm happy for now

Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions. My DD is very small for her age was likely IUGR (although not known at the time). I just am exhausted thinking about worrying about both their sizes now instead of just one

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant? We are moving in 2.5 weeks. I have the summer off. DD is going to daycare 2 days a week. I will unpack one day and clean. The other day of the week I shall sit on my bum. Haven't done that since before she was born. I'm pretty excited about it!

  • This is a great idea, thanks for organizing! :-)

How far along are you/EDD? 12 weeks 5 days/23rd of November but won't be allowed to go past 16th of November

What makes you High Risk? Have elevated blood sugar levels. Before ever being pregnant with DS I had perfectly normal blood sugars. With my DS had a lot of risk factors and I tested positive very early (like 13 weeks I think it was?). I think having being initially pregnant with twins and the extra hormones from IVF made it start so early. My numbers never normalized after the pregnancy. I've had glucose intolerance ever since. Before I was allowed to cycle again for #2 I had to work with & be approved with a perinatologist. Had to get my numbers to the levels required for control for GD for some time before I was allowed to attempt to get pregnant. So this time around I won't ever be officially tested for GD as my numbers were already at actionable levels. Nice thing about having been through IVF I'm no longer scared of needles so it was an easy decision to go with insulin rather than glyburide which hasn't been approved for use in pregnant women but the usually want to prescribe.

How are you managing? This time around has been a million times better than last pregnancy. Having the months leading up to being pregnant was a great way to try out how foods react in my body & the effect they have on my blood sugars with out being stressed about the damage they are doing to a baby when they ran high. There is a lot less of fear of the unknown this time around. I am hoping to hang on to baby for as long as possible, we were early (3wks) last time & DS ended up in NICU. Hoping that blood control from the very beginning this time around will lead to my placenta lasting longer this time around and we can get as close to 39 weeks as possible. Love seeing the perinatologist and all the extra appointments, first pregnancy felt super weird initially to be under the care of a regular OB after all the time spent with an RE and how intensive that medical care is. Doing a lot better emotionally this time around, last time was a rough start on the pregnancy, had a complete fertilization failure followed by a RISCI and was given a 7% chance of a live birth. Then a SCH & twin loss. Was pretty much a total stressed out nut job the whole pregnancy. This time around I know it's actually possible for me to have a baby so takes the stress levels down a kazillion :-) All in all doing ok with being highg risk again, I know what is going to happen is going to happen, I can only do my best to control what I can and after that it is out of my hands. Plus having a baby to snuggle up to just makes everything ok.

Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions. Already DREADING the belly groping. What is up with people thinking that a pregnant woman no longer should expect the same respect of freedom from unwanted touching as every other woman/person in general. Don't get me started on that rant

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant? Can't eat chocolate so needless to say that is a huge bummer. Sleeping is good. I put the body pillow down on the floor and my DS wanders over from time to time for a snuggle in between playing. Super cute. (DH is watching him, he's not unattended while I sleep!)

CLBP (caused by ruptured & herniated discs, DDD aka arthritis, old fractures, scoliosis, stenosis, hip dysplagia...), medication, AMA. As far as high risk goes, I'm really not very. After meeting with my peri/MFM, I'll only have one additional u/s (fetal echocardiogram) due to having taken cymbalta during pregnancy. It is already expected to go well since complications have only really been seen when the medication had been continued throughout the pregnancy (most notably in third tri), and I was weaned off by 8wks. And I *just* turned 35, so he's not concerned with that. I have a few fibroids, but they seem to be behaving so far, and are located on the opposite side of my uterus to cause any fear of complications. Keeping my history of depression in mind.

    How are you managing?
keep moving and maintaining. Regular chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, physical therapy, yoga, ice packs, brace... intermittent use of approved medication. I've already started to notice decreased stamina and it's hard to make myself take breaks as often as I should.

    Any thoughts/concerns/vents/questions.
I'm more worried about my husband than myself right now, although I must admit I'm secretly freaking the fuck out. I am already overwhelmed and am having a really hard time keeping up with the demands of life. How am I supposed to manage with another human?

    What makes you High Risk?
PTL, IC, and IU with our previous LO. She was born at 27w2d in September '13 (12/8/13 was her due date). And it had been less than 6 months since I had my C-section so there is now another concern added to my pile-uterine rupture is a possibility with my expanding uterus.

    How are you managing?
Pretty well. But, we are being watched extremely closely since we KNOW to watch for my cervix shortening. We started seeing our MFM at 8 weeks to get the ball rolling on getting my TVCIC done ASAP! We weren't able to even try a rescue cerclage with our DD, so, we made sure to get started on our preventative-had it placed at 11w4d.

    Any thoughts/concerns/questions?
Our only concerns at this point are cervical changes or any signs of PTL. Oh, and I'm dreading starting the p17 shots but they are a necessary evil.

GTKY: What is your favorite way to de-stress while pregnant?
I'm not a "girly-girl" at all but I adore getting a pedicure! It instantly makes me feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders.
