Sleep Deprivation--Will Supply Recover?

I've been enduring a bad case of insomnia the past 6 weeks and starting 2 weeks ago my supply finally took a hit. I'm now pumping small deficits each day. I think it's related to sleep deprivation and stress from dealing with the insomnia, but I also was spotting a little bit a few days ago (that has since gone away) so I'm wondering if that played a role in it as well.

I think I'm finally on track to getting improved sleep again so my stress levels are going down as well, but I'm wondering how aggressive I need to be about increasing supply or if it will just boost on its own with time? I pump 3x/day at work, nurse 3 other times a day at home with DD, and I nurse exclusively on Saturdays and Sundays. I'm taking Go Lacta right now and rented a hospital-grade pump. Anyone gone through this? DD is 5 months old.

Re: Sleep Deprivation--Will Supply Recover?

  • I know for me getting enough sleep makes a huge difference in supply. I think you will bounce back quickly nursing and pumping. Add an extra pumping session or two if you can that will help.

My sleep and hydration make a big difference in my supply.  I was also having big dips in supply twice a month -- one for ovulation, one for AF.  Taking calcium + magnesium helped level out those dips.  And, good news, the magnesium supplement (Nature Calm) is also marketed to help with sleep and anxiety.  I take more of that than I do of calcium.
Is Nature Calm only available on Amazon? Do any stores carry it--I haven't found any yet.
