For the past three mornings I've found the most disgusting sea creatures in my panties. I know it's the plug, and I keep getting excited "oh maybe this is the day", even though I know damn well losing it doesn't mean anything. Ugh! So today it was bloody and even more horrific.. Which got me really excited. Until I went in for my checkup today feeling like a champ and my doc informed me I'm still 1 cm and will most likely still be pregnant until next week. Mucus plug you're an evil bitch from hell! Stop toying with my emotions! I hate your face! End hormonal rant.

Nope. Doc says it really has no meaning on when labor may start. Some people lose it a few days before.. Some lose it a month before. Some lose it and it re grows, and then comes out again. Others never lose it all. Stupid plug!

This is how it worked for me, I never lost mine with DS1. After the doctor broke my water it came out.

I really wish evolution would have given us a more concrete formula by now...eg, dilate to 2cm, lose plug, start contractions within 24 hours, labor and deliver, the end. Instead it's a host of symptoms that don't mean anything and differ greatly from person to person which is beyond unhelpful. As an aside, OP referring to the plug pieces as "sea creatures" is friggin hysterical! Haha

Mine didn't come out completely until I'd already done 12 hours early labor. It's the most disgusting thing though. Especially when you end up pulling it out in the bath. Bleurgh.

From what I understand it really doesn't matter how dilated you are either. I have been 1cm for 4weeks and my dr keeps telling me he is in there for the long haul.
So yesterday I asked her what that really means as far as when he could come and she said not much. She said I could start having contractions today and go from 1-6cm in hours or I can wake up one morning and be 4cm. It really isn't a good way to guesstimate when he will come. So we really have nothing that will help tell us when labor is close

Of course, it would be nice to hear that I have dilated more just to know things are moving along.
