Anybody else's LO get cold symptoms after vaccines?

I don't remember if this ever happened to DS1.  DS2 had his 4 month vaccines on Monday.  Tuesday he started with a clear runny nose and a tickly cough that sounded like the kind you get from draining sinuses down the back of your throat.  This morning he is the same, some ticklish coughing, some yellowish snot first thing and now it is clear.  He doesn't have a fever and has been sleeping for longer during naps.  I'm not too concerned, but just curious if this is the norm after vaccines? Nobody else in our home is sick.

  • This didn't happen for me. But since my DD is in daycare even if it did, I would blame DC. I also sort of think she has some allergy symptoms. She had a runny nose and a tickled throat that never escalated like her other colds did and it happened to be on some "VERY HIGH" tree pollen days when I myself was suffering awful allergy symptoms. (Not taking anything this year because of BFing.)

I know peds say it's most likely not but maybe it could be allergies?

  • I would think in your case @bethughknee it could very well be allergies if you have the same.  DS2 isn't in DC, and the timing of this is awfully suspicious.  I'm assuming it might just happen because their immune system is responding to the vaccines.

  • @CopperT0p It also could be that he picked up a cold in the peds office. It's happened to me before! Our ped has an exam room used ONLY for well visits but there's still only so much you can do when so many things (like colds) are airborne.

  • @Bethughknee, that is true.  DS1 was with us and didn't get sick, but then again he is 3.5 years old and has a pretty good immune system from being in DC for a couple years.

  • Yes, some kids and adults experience this. It's the immune system building up an immunity. It's a good thing! As long as there are no fevers

  • I really hope he gets over this quick, my "DH" as I call him on here and I are getting married next Saturday and I hope he is feeling better by then!

  • Me too! I hope whatever DS2 has doesn't pass on to his brother or us.
