Stupid Question About GTT

I feel stupid asking this question, I know I should know better and you guys are going to give me a hard time (because you're all so mean!).

I have my glucose test this afternoon at 3:30pm.  My doctor told me to not eat any 'carbs or sugars' 2 hours ahead of time.  So I usually have an afternoon snack around 2:30 or 3pm.  I told DH what the doctor said and he packed me an apple and cheddar cheese for snack.  Now I'm worried because apples have sugar.  Should I just eat the cheese and skip the apple until after?  Sorry for the stupid question (I feel like a newb).

  • Not a stupid question...I'm absolutely awful about food. I eat terrible and I know it, I just don't know how to change it! I use a food tracker and I'm consistently high in carbs, sugar, and sodium...in other words all the worst things for me and baby! But when I try and come up with "healthy" snacks I am at a complete loss :(

have you done your GTT yet?
I have not. I won't until 29 weeks, not sure why my OB is waiting so long...

  • Not to mention I am hypoglycemic...

    I have not seen a dietician...I'm very stubborn :(

It's actually been easier to manage since getting pregnant, which I found odd. But my biggest problem is I just don't KNOW what foods are good and bad choices! I'll eat something and then realize just how many carbs are in it and I never would have guessed.

I'm also a picky eater. Fruits are fine, but my list of acceptable veggies is rather short, and most (other than carrots) need to be cooked for me to handle them. And plain cheese is sickening to me, so my "compromise" is cheese and crackers. Carbs. Ugh. And nuts are completely out for me...all of them. I had a problem as a child eating nuts and thinking of crunchy bugs...never been able to get that mentality to go away.

  • Holy cow I sound like a horrible complainer about nothing! I think I just need to make more of a point to MAKE myself make some changes...

  • Yeah, I would skip the apple if it's not too late!

*Gasps* How dare you? Friendship Over!
  • So the tech at the lab questioned if cheese was a carb when I checked in. I Googled it and cheese is a low carb food...I really don't want them to make me come back.

  • Cheese is definitely a low carb food - that tech is a goof. :) Fingers crossed you pass!

DH is in charge of all food related activities in our house.  He grocery shops, cooks, and packs lunches.  If it was up to me, we'd eat nothing but frozen and highly processed crap.
