Baby mad at bottle and crying out

I'm at a loss for why my 5mo is pulling away from his bottle and making squealing sounds. I tried a faster nipple and he still did it. It's like he's mad and frustrated about something while he eats. He'll pull away, squeal and then continue on. Doesn't have gas. Any ideas?

He is definitely hungry. This kids hunger cue is screaming for his bottle ;)

Would that last a whole month?

Mine does this. He just needs to sleep for maybe 10-15 minutes then he will eat. He won't eat when he is screaming and upset. He will take a couple sucks, pull off, scream and repeat. So I gave up and rocked him to sleep, and when he was calmed down, then he took the bottle and ate well. So, that is what we've been doing.
  • Did you start up a new can of formula then or is it breastmilk?

This. This is also true when I BF.

Mine stated doing this because she was having reflux and she was associating the bottle with pain. Is your LO having reflux symptoms? Screaming and arching away when eating, when you sit him up you can sometimes hear or feel a hicupping sensation. Also like other posters said calm him down completely first and try again. I would have to get mine almost half asleep and try again. He could also be teething and the bottle is hurting his gums. Maybe try oragel on his gums before you feed him. I hope something helps.
  • When this happens to us it's teething. We alternate a frozen teething ring with the bottle and that helps.

  • I agree with pp, sounds a bit like teething. And yes, it can last an entire month. My LO has had buds for like 6 weeks that haven't come all the way through yet. We use one of those teethers that looks almost like a binky and alternate between feeding and letting him gnaw on that.
  • Teething? This is exactly how my LO started his bottle strike when teething started.

We tried a different bottle today and he seems much happier. Went from dr.browns to a glass evenflow. Maybe it's something about the airflow and teething.thanks all!
