Re: Hyperthyroidism

  • I was very hyperthyroid during my third pregnancy - my TSH came back at 0.  My ob said that often times it corrects itself once you're in the second trimester and since it is harder to treat during pregnancy than hypothyroidism, he wanted to take a wait and see approach.  We were just about to start treating it when I miscarried (unrelated to the hyperthyroidism.)  Treatment would have been me taking a medication.

Prior to that pregnancy, my thyroid had always been normal but ever since then it's been wacky.  After the miscarriage it swung the other way and I have been hypothyroid ever since, except that sometimes the meds for that make my hyper so it seems I'm always having my levels checked and my dose adjusted.

Hyperthyroidism can increase the severity of morning sickness so I hope you're not having that.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Thanks for the info, I have been pretty sick but I was with my last pregnancy too so I didn't think anything of it. I haven't had too many other symptoms so I am hoping they can just monitor me and not treat with meds. The effects to the baby are pretty scary so I hope it all works out :/ I'm sorry for your losses.
