Hey ladies- any moms that tested positive for GBS and had there babies already- was your baby ok? I'm due on the 29th just reading a lot of stuff online ad getting freaked out!
I tested positive then asked to retake the test at the next appointment. I did a bunch of stuff that week, re-tested, and got negative the next time. Don't be scared to let them know you'd like to re test
I tested positive a few weeks ago (was having cramping so they tested me for a few things. At 36 weeks I tested negative. My OB said since I was negative they wouldn't treat me with antibiotics. I am 38 weeks.
The problem with GBS is that it can be there one day and not the next, so in reality even those that tested negative have just as much of a chance of being positive, and vice versa. They take a preventative step with all people that test + and administer antibiotics just in case, but there are GBS babies born to women who tested - as well.
It's more about baby when baby is born and how they are doing than a test 3 weeks ahead of time.
I got two doses of IV meds at the hospital and so far, baby is aok. Our pedi did have us come in toady (day 3) just to make sure there didn't seem to be any complications, but she's perfect so far.
I tested positive and my baby is fine. My water broke before I started having contractions, so I had to head to the hospital earlier than I would've liked for the antibiotics. I think I had 3 bags of penicillin by the end.

I was gbs+ with ds and he was fine. I'm gbs+ again and I'm so sure lo will be fine that I'm going to do my best to convince the pediatrician to let us out after 24 hours instead of the normal 48hrs
I'm positive and I'm in l&d now. They gave me my first antibiotic but they do not seem concerned about it at all. Keeps me less worried too. It's a pretty simple process!
I tested positive with both mine & they're fine,,, with my first i had such a fast labor that I had time for just one bag but they just monitored him for for tests over 48 hours & once the 48hr past, the labs showed he was fine & we went home next morning.
Re: GBS (group B Strep)
Also, no stripping of membranes of breaking of water until said penicillin were administered, so as to protect the sterile env't.
No worries - you and your LO will be just fine.
Anyone else have their MD say this?
