Pregnant after a Loss

One-hour glucose test - blech

I thought because I was allowed to eat breakfast first, I would have no issues with the one-hour glucose tolerance test. Boy, was I wrong! I drank the solution just fine, but started feeling lightheaded and woozy about 45-minutes later at the doctor's office. I came home and took a nap, but I really didn't feel right all day.

I get my results tomorrow. I really, really hope I pass, because I don't want to do the fasting, three-hour test. I told my DH he'll have to take me to that appointment, if I do have to do it, because I won't be able to drive.

Did any of you feel gross after the one-hour test and still pass?

Fingers crossed.

Re: One-hour glucose test - blech

  • I felt awful!!! When I took it with my dd, I don't remember having the same issues. But I felt exactly how you described this time around. I was so dizzy and "spacey" all afternoon and even sick to my stomach. It wasn't fun. Luckily, mine turned out to be the opposite of GD. I have very low blood sugar!! Fx for you that yours is normal and you won't have to do the 3hr!!

  • I didn't do GD testing with DD. Unless you have risk factors, I think the stress that the test puts your body through is really unnecessary. I will probably be strongly encouraged to do it this time though because I'm older and have twins. Ugh, I'm not looking forward to it. I'll probably have to book the whole day off work to recover.

Fingers crossed for you redtulips!! I really really hope you don't have to do the 3 hours one.

I had bad luck and it was awful. I don't know how your drink was, but mine was the 50mg glucose in the 1 hour test. I was ok drinking it but I didn't pass. I had to do the 3 hours last week. They gave me the 100mg glucose drink, and believe me, I wanted to die after drinking that syrup. I felt so sick for hours. I had to starve 12 hours previous to the test, plus obviously in those 3 hours you are not allowed to eat or drink anything, not even water. The took blood samples 4 times;1 before drinking and 3 after each hour. My arms are still aching and bruised.
I am hoping I don't have GD because on top of the bad news last week, I don't think I can handle it too well... :(

    I'll be thinking on you.

  • I flunked my 1hr last time but passed the 3hr; it was a nightmare, and I highly recommend bringing someone with you. There was no way I could have driven after that thing. This time I'm going to try and convince my OB to just let me monitor myself for a week with a glucose monitor.

@2redtulips sorry I didn't post in this board. I have high blood pressure and I have been put on medication (yes more pills!) and scheduled bed rest. Probably leading to a hospital stay if the medication can't lower my blood pressure... I have now a c-sec scheduled for the 28th of July if I make it so far...

  • I always wonder how this test can be good for us. I guess I am just bitter because I failed the one hour :( These responses don't make the 3 hour test seems so great.

    I hope you passed!!

  •  I think its way more of an inconvenience to have GD than the screening (think weekly appointments, very strict diet of what and when you can eat, finger sticks 4x daily, NSTs if you go on meds, growth scans, being labeled "high risk").

Oh, I agree! I don't mean to whine about the test. I just really didn't expect to feel bad afterward.

My sister had GD with her youngest, and it was a total drag for her. I am hoping I pass mostly so I can avoid all of the hassle of the diet and extra appointments. I am sorry you had to go through that!
