I've been dairy free for two weeks now following a really bloody diaper. It took a few days for LO's stool to no longer be red, but eventually it wasn't. Her diarrhea never went fully away in this time, but it would be more firm every so many diapers. All in all, things seemed to be steadily improving. I know it can take a couple weeks for milk proteins to fully leave both our systems, so I wasn't worried. Her 2 month appointment is on Thursday and the pediatrician thought that would be an ok time frame to check her progress.
Well, she also didn't really poop all day today until about half an hour ago. She had wet diapers, so I wasn't too worried. But when I heard her poop just now and changed her diaper, it was all red again. She just had a second poopy diaper that was all red while I was typing this.
I called the pedi's after hour line and spoke with the nurse. LO seems happy and isn't throwing up. She does have a temp of 99.5, but they said we can wait to go in to the doctor until tomorrow unless her temp goes to 100.4.
I'm so upset. I feel like I'm hurting her by breastfeeding, and I'm worried I might have to quit. I've been so careful with my diet. I read every label. I've looked up all dairy ingredients that aren't obvious so I can screen for them. I'm simultaneously so worried and so sad. I'll be doing formula (Allimentum) only tonight since I'm afraid I'm hurting her.
Sorry for the novella. Any good vibes you can send this way would be really appreciated.
**UPDATE**
We saw the pediatrician today. Ellie is growing well and is 50th percentile on the dot. She definitely has allergic colitis, but it's not affecting her development. I'm going to continue on the no dairy/no soy diet. I also have a new regimen of probiotics to give her. Apparently this could take an additional up to 6 weeks to be completely resolved. The good news is, it should resolve and it's doubtful we're dealing with any additional allergies.
Thanks as always, ladies, for your support and positive thoughts!
Ps. Please forgive any typos. I'm one handed on my phone right now.
