Do you pronounce GIF with a g like 'grape' or a g like 'giant'? I always think of it with a g like 'grape' but I randomly thought about it and wondered if I'm in the majority or minority here. Lol

it's supposed to be jif, but I say gif

It's supposed to be Jif, but it's pretty split with the way people commonly pronounce it.

MOST of the time, if a g is followed by an e or an i, it's soft (/j/ vs /g/). Not always, though.

For the record, I still have always pronounced it with a hard g even knowing that rule.

I pronounce it with a hard g because it's like "gift" without the t.

That's how I've pronounced it (jif) and my DH always said I was saying it wrong. So showing this to DH when he gets home!
